Another Dining Plan Question

Ok...originally my fiance and I were not going to get the DP..we couldn't justify the cost. But now looking at some menus and deciding (or trying to decide) where we want to eat, it seems like it MIGHT pay for itself assuming we pick decent sit downs.

Here is my question..

When we go to a restaurant, can we get anything off their menu for the entree/dessert? Or is it just a select few entrees/desserts?

Also, when I call to make ADRs do I have to tell them if I have the DP?

Oh, and we can add this anytime before the 45 day window right?

You may order any entree and any dessert with very few exceptions.
For example, the Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream ($22 sundae) is not covered. Also, the three-course French Menu at Chefs de France is not covered. But in general, you may order anything on the menu.

You can add the plan at any time up to about a week before you arrive, but if you add it on or after your 45-day mark you will have to pay for it in entirety when you call to add it on.

When making ADRs, sometimes I have been asked and sometimes I have not been asked about being on the dining plan. I don't think they seriously need to know, but sometimes they ask and I answer accordingly.

If you've looked at the menus, and are asking this question... then you obviously enjoy food, and don't just "eat because you have to....". IMHO, get the DP ! I wouldn't go without it... and my wife is one of those people that "eats because she has to !"

I recently added the DP to my upcoming trip because of the same reasons that you are thinking about adding it. I had all these places I wanted to eat (at least 1 TS meal a day) and now with the dining plan I don't have to worry about looking at the prices on the menu. Sure I could probably spend less on food by not being on the dining plan, but I may also have to choose items from a menu that I would otherwise want to try just to keep costs down. To me, its a relief knowing that I won't have to worry about how much something costs and if I end up saving even $1 by using the dining plan then it was worth it!

I ended up adding it after I made all my ADRs and it was no problem, I didn't have to go back and tell all the restaurants that I was on the DP. Just as long as you tell your waiter or waitress when you get to the restaurant. I say go for it...its totally worth it, from a money perspective and from a relaxation while on vacation perspective.

We always add the DP when we take our trips. Its nice to know that you food is pretty much covered when you head off for your trip. Disney has made some changes to the plan that we don't like very much, but we still think it is a good value for the money.

With very limited exceptions, you may have anything on the menu that fits the categories of your plan (for basic DDP, that would be a non-alcoholic beverage, entree, and dessert). The general exception is items "for two" (or more), and even in those cases, you may be able to do it if the requisite number of diners (on plan) all order that item together; policy may vary restaurant to restaurant or even server to server.

There may be places that limit the beverage, and souvenir cups/glow cubes/etc. aren't included. Ask before ordering.

You do not have to mention the DDP when making reservations. For a few specific places (CRT, Akerhuas, dinner shows) that require payment in advance, you can avoid the charge by telling them you're on the plan, but they'll still take a credit card as a guarantee against a no-show.

Dining plan can be added up to about a week before your trip, but there may be change fees inside the 45 day window.

If you plan on eating at least 1 table service a day, it should pay for itself and then some. We always do it too. We like the table service meals and it gives us a bit of down time, yet fun at the same time. We always have made out. I usually keep track of the costs And so far we have made out pretty dang good.
But if you are planning on eating only counter service you may want to just pay out of pocket or get the quick service plan.
