Another customer service poll to help me out!

To you, what makes a shopping experience better and make you a repeat customer?

  • A greeter standing at the door to greet you or direct you

  • A speedy checkout with very little waiting in line

Since the results of my Sunday poll were so fascinating, I thought I would try to find out what you think about another thing my company is trying out.

They feel that the average shopper would rather wait longer in line to check out and take the extra person - position them at the front of the store to greet you (and I suppose answer questions if needed)

So I ask you - is it more important to you when you shop to have speedy checkout or a greeter at the front of the store?

Speedier checkout ::yes::

Greeters have a two-fold purpose
1- to of course greet you
2- to deter shoplifters, believe it or not

I don't care if I am greeted! Get me out of there in an appropriate amt. of time! I hate standing in line when there are people wandering aimlessly (so it seems) around!

darn tootin!

I don't like the 'greeter' personally...also, I don't like the person that follows me around offering their assistance or pushing a credit card on me (asking me once or twice is fine...but FIVE TIMES?!?!?)

then, when you NEED assistance, *poof*...gone.

Monkeyboy - I agree on the shoplifter statement. That is always why my employees make eye contact and say hi to customers while they are on the sales floor, even if they are doing an operational task. If someone is acting suspiciously to them they just hound them with kindness and "can I help you" - "Thats a pretty shirt you have on" - "What a great haircut". If they bolt for the door, they are probably up to no good. Gotta love the subtle way of saying - dude, I can tell the cops what you look like.

I love being greeted, but I dislike standing in long lines even more...so I went with speedy checkout. :)

Definitely speedy check out! I don't have any questions when I first come into the store!

I don't care so much about being greeted, but the speedy checkout isn't the most important thing to me either, particularly in a big store. What I'd like to see more of is knowledgeable people throughout the store to answer questions or direct you to where you need to be.

I went to Home Depot the other day, what a nightmare trip that was. Made me long for the day of Mom and Pop Hardware store. :( There was no one to be found to answer a simple question, I ended up walking out in disgust.

i'm another who actually doesn't like to be greeted. it's annoying. i just want to get what i want and get out.

Not surprisingly, there are no votes for greeter. I hate to be bothered in the store.

OTOH, as Snoopy pointed out, there are stores where you need salespeople who know their stuff on the floor - seems obvious in a home improvement store, lol.

Speedy checkout. I hate being bothered. I shop like a man...I go to a store knowing just what I need, I get what I need, then I leave. End of story. Shopping is not my strong suit. ;)

I like a speedy checkout. I hate standing in long lines.

Both are nice, but I have to say, I will sometimes shop at one place over an another, even if it means paying a little more (like $1.59 vs. $1.00 ) to avoid waiting in lines.

And friendly checkout people. The worst is checkout people who are surly.

Sometimes I like them both. There are times when I am in a hurry and I just want someone to point through the crowd and tell me where that 1 thing is I came to get. At other times, there are people behind me in line that act like they are going to kill something if they don't get out of there.....for their sake I try to hurry and get out of their way. Whadda' gonna do?? :confused3

I don't think I've ever seen a poll with the votes all one way. That sure sends the company a message about how feel about standing in longer lines, lol.

Wow! All 85 of us...100% would rather get out faster. ;) Show your higher ups, Lauri. ;)
