Nicole Ritchie had her son today, and named him Sparrow James Midnight Madden. Hmm. :confused3 I guess my first thought is that Sparrow sounds like more of a girl's name to me, but perhaps he'll luck out and they'll call him James.

I'm all for thinking a bit outside the box when naming your children - but I always think that these kids are not going to be babies forever; someday this little guy is going to grow up and it's hard for me to picture a Grandpa Sparrow :goodvibes. Even if you are a Hollywood child and those around you are used to "different" names, I would think Sparrow would be a hard one to grow up with.

I don't know, it makes me thinks of all those "midnight madness sale" commercials.

Sparrow? For a boy? (not that it's much better for a girl). She may as well have a target tattoo'd on his back.

Sparrow just makes me think of Captn Jack Sparrow. Not a huge fan of the name but congrats to them!

There ought to be a prosecutable category of child abuse for naming your kids things like that. :lmao: Good thing they have money for body guards, because that kid will be harassed if they choose to use the name "Sparrow." "Midnight" isn't much better, but at least it's not so feminine. If they were inspired by Captain Jack Sparrow, then why not "Jack" or even "Captain"? Yes, he'd have been subject to Tenille jokes from oldsters, but he'd survive. :rotfl2:

Poor kid. Maybe they'll stick with James.

rofl. This name is right up there with "Apple."

:lmao: Y'all are cracking me up. I hate made up names. I think they are snobby and pompous. Anybody remember Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa? How about Zowie Bowie. Poor kid! when he became an adult he had his name changed legally to Joey. But hey! if I was made of money and planned to pass on a big load of that to my kids-with-stupid-names I guess it wouldn't matter the end.:thumbsup2

Isn't her daughter's name Harlow? I guess the parents were looking for a rhyming name.

Yes her dd's name is Harlow. I hate rhyming names. Flowing well together is one thing but rhyming and singsongy names just irritate me. While they don't exactly rhyme they have the same ending sound.

Not my kid though so whatever. I'm glad he's here safely :).

Yes, her daughter's name is Harlow, but that doesn't rhyme with Sparrow!:confused3
You are right! :rotfl: At first, I thought the daughter's name was Harrow. But after I hit the post button, I googled it, fixed the spelling but it didn't occur to me that the names no longer rhyme. :lmao:

It is so different when these kids are young. Of course it's cute to have an unusual name then. Everyone speaks to you on a first name basis.

Then comes adulthood. So many of these names do not go with the last names. Brad and Angelina's kids are a perfect example. Knox Pitt? Pax Pitt? :confused3

My favorite is Voilet Affleck. Sounds like something you catch. lol :rotfl2:

Reminds me of that saying "How am I supposed to fly like an eagle when I'm surrounded by sparrows" or something like that. Sort of derogatory I would not do that to my kid.

well, technically they are Knox Jolie-Pitt and Pax Jolie-Pitt. ;):) They also said Knox was a family name...I wonder if Pax is what his name was already..he was older when they adopted him so maybe they didn't change his name? Violet..compared to others not so bad but does sound a little weird when you say it out loud and fast.

Maybe they will pronoune it Spar-row and not Spare-row :lmao:then it would sound a bit more like Harlow.

I think it's a ridiculous name for a child, and particularly a boy.

What ARE these people thinking??? Hopefully his name will sort of "become" James...

While I agree Sparrow is unusual, I too thought the baby was a girl...but for a boy that is just awful!

Generally, sparrows tend to be small, plump brown-grey birds with short tails and stubby, powerful beaks. They are primarily seed-eaters, though they also consume small insects.

Didn't she read first??:confused3:sad2:

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

I'll hold out hope for that poor boy that James dominates!:thumbsup2

The lead singer of my favorite band recently named his baby daughter Bandit. Though it's cute, I can't imagine we will ever see a President Bandit Way. :rotfl:

The other thing I think about - -

I guess Sparrow is an OK name if you're going to be an actor, or a director, or on a TV show - in short, if this kid was going to have a career like his parents, then OK. But how do they know that?! What if he grows up and wants to be a doctor, teacher, lawyer, accountant, etc?! I can see it now - I wonder if his business cards will read S. James Madden and he'll just get rid of the Sparrow altogether.

In any event, they should start socking away money now for this kid's therapy. :rotfl:
