Two characters basically meet while working on the set of an adult film. Their job is to "block" out the scenes for the cameras/lighting crew so they are nude and there is a lot of pretend motions but it is not a sex scene.

It sounds like a cute, light movie to watch by myself or with my husband. Probably not with my teens.

Haven't read the link to the article yet, but this is one of my favorite movies!! I always watch it at Christmas, now it isn't child appropriate so that is kinda a bummer b/c I do enjoy watching Christmas movies with them, but this is a must every holiday season. Yes it has nudity and swearing, but it has such a good message. My favorite quote and IMO sums up the movies message well(gives me chills just reading it):

Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.

I am tired of having to go into speeches in the middle of movies about the declining morals of society and inaccurate portrayal of relationships in films when all I want to do is sit down for 90 minutes and enjoy a movie with my family. :badpc:

So, basically, you don't watch movies then....

I try to watch it ever year at Christmas. One of my favorites. I love how they tie everything together at the end. There are so many great characters and the acting is superb. Really, you all can't get past that one "nude" scene :confused3 (I totally get if you have children in the room it could be jarring, but otherwise I don't get it). It's supposed to be humorous and about how you can find love in the strangest times/places. And I am about as far from a romantic as you can get and I still love this movie.

I usually take a day off of work to wrap presents while the kids are at school/daycare and Love Actually is a staple. Its better than 99% of the schlock they show on the Hallmark channel this time of year ;)

ITA:thumbsup2 I feel the same way about the nude scenes. I watch it doing the same thing one night every Holiday season:goodvibes

Hmmmm quite a leap there, don't you think?

No, I will not watch this movie with my teen son or daughter in the room. Doing so would put us in the epicenter of Creepyville.

I haven't seen it, but from reading reviews, I think I agree with you. We are blunt and open and honest with our kids, but that doesn't mean I want to sit with my teenage sons and watch nudity and sex. Its not comfortable for them or me. Now, perhaps some of the reviews have exaggerated that part of it? Maybe I need to check it out for myself ;).

I love the movie, except for the Snape/Professor Trelawney storyline. :headache: It's clearly a "Fluff" movie, so yeah, Hugh Grant as the Prime Minister is a bit of an exaggerated stretch. :p But, I watch it for Colin Firth's story.

I totally forgot the "nude scene" people are talking about, until you described it. But, then, I'm not a parent, looking for movies to watch with kids or teens. I don't think of this as a movie even AIMED at kids or teens. It is obviously an adult-themed movie. (Adult-themed not meaning porn. But, about the complexities of adult relationships, other than the Liam Neeson & son storyline. It has unrequited love, another guy who gets it on with many women, AND there is a storyline about infidelity. Clearly not kid appropriate subject matters. :confused3 ) Not every film is meant to be watched with kids. Even when they are "fluff." Even when they are Christmas movies. Adults need fluff and eye-candy too. :thumbsup2

The film was given an R rating by the Motion Picture Association of America. Not PG or even PG-13.

I tried watching it, but couldn't get past the nude scene (was it a porn, a commercial, a movie they were making...I can't even remember). That whole thing was just too weird and made me turn it off.

Other. Never even HEARD of it. The above caught my attention, but further reading seems to indicate I'm not missing much.

I saw it. But I dont remember what its about. No clue whatsoever. Yes it was that memorable. :lmao:

Love it. It's certainly not a centerpiece of classic cinema but it is a fun Christmas movie. Laura Linney's storyline always makes me so sad though.

I so adore this movie. I agree that I wish it were a little less risque, but DH and I watch it sometime during the week prior to Christmas (when my DS is in bed.)

Bravo! This is exactly what I came here to say.

Not every Christmas movie has to be geared toward kids. It's like those parents who took their kids to see "Bad Santa" and were shocked at the content.

"Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian". Pretty clear not even a teen movie without parental approval. There are plenty of G, PG, and PG -13 movies in a variety of genres for watching with teens.

I've seen this movie a number of times and didn't even remember the nudes scene until a previous poster described it. I watch it on television an they bleep and blur things as needed. I didn't think it was a child appropriate movie. They're mostly going to think it's mushy and boring.

I've only seen it once, but I was not a fan.

It had been presented to me as a "great Christmas movie," and I didn't find it to be great or a Christmas movie*. I can't remember specifics, but I remember feeling that it was overall depressing, and more of a movie that took place at Christmastime than a "Christmas movie."

*Although I'll admit that my idea of a good Christmas movie are those cheesy ones on the Hallmark Channel where you can guess the happy ending by 10 minutes into the movie. I don't really need drama or Oscar-winning actors in my holiday films.

I enjoy it every year! The character I really don't like though is Keira Knightley's. The storyline seems off to me and she annoys me in it.

Love love love Colin Firths.
