Another closure--getting frustrated

Yikes. No matter how surly people were (guests and CM's alike) I have never seen someone throw a punch.

I have never witnessed this either, but it happens. I hear parades are kill of be killed when staking out a spot.

I always get a chuckle from posts like these since people complain when Disney changes nothing and there are attractions that need updating and then when Disney does do something, others complain that things are closed while they are there.

Yes, I agree that the Studios will be a short trip for me next time but I'll still go. Same thing for Animal Kingdom. Because there is so much more to see and do. Will I rush to the new Frozen stuff in Epcot? No - but there are hundreds and thousands of others who will.

Each person has to make their own choices as to what is important to them - because of financial difficulties and loses of jobs, my husband and I haven't been able to go to Disney World for a long time (for us - a year and a half). Once we can go again, I don't care what is open or closed - I will be in my Laughing Place and that's all that matters to me.

There are plenty of play areas at the resorts, outside of the parks. And plenty of interactive things to do in Animal Kingdom for kids to move around. The Boneyard is okay but it's only a playground at the end of the day. Use the interactive queue at Dumbo in the Magic Kingdom to get a similar experience. The unfortunate truth is that Disney will always do the bulk of their refurbs during the slower times. With WDW being open 365 days a year, it makes financial sense to run the refurbs during the non-peak times. Yes, you're still paying good money to go to the parks but no one is obligated to have a specific number of attractions up and running during their visit. When we went on July 4 week last year we were paying a higher rate and we still had closures and refurbs to work around. It's just a fact of visiting WDW during a period of renovation. The entire resort is under construction right now. Pools are closing for refurbs, Disney Springs is growing and changing, parks are expanding and improving rides, and more people than ever are cramming into the parks and that takes a toll on how much maintenance is needed to keep things looking nice and working properly.

The thing is, that nobody wants it done during THEIR vacation. Truth of the matter is, like you said, DW is open every day of the year, so they have to close stuff to refurbish/upgrade and it will always impact peoples trips. It's not like a local amusement park that closes after Labor Day for the winter. And the scope of the work can't be done in a single night and re-open in the morning. It's disappointing, but it happens to ALL of us. First world problems.

This is the first I've heard (read) of the Boneyard. It was a disaster for us last time. The growling (or whatever the noises were) scared my kids to death. We left with them screaming bloody murder. haha

I remember one time I went to Disneyland, and Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and Splash Mountain were all down. It was really disappointing, but I still had an amazing day.

There is way too much closed or in bad condition right now IMO. MK isn't too bad and AK is improving but the other two parks are in a pathetic state. But to each their own.

OP, I'm sorry that you will miss the Boneyard. It's great for kids.

While true, not having refurbs is only going to make things worse.

I get that things need updated, but how about doing night time work or something?

I'm not sure how this would make it better. It's not like you can do work at night and have it open during the day when everything is partially done. When refurbishment is underway, the attraction has to be closed until it's finished.

OP, I feel your frustration. Peter Pan is our white whale - we haven't been able to get on for the last 14 years because whenever we went, no matter which park, it was down for refurb. This year I made sure it wasn't closed! Was it frustrating to see it closed down every time we went? Of course it was. And it did result in tears because the kids couldn't go. But to be honest, I rather have them close down attractions for some time and refurbish them so everything works and is safe instead of constantly getting stuck because it breaks down or - heaven forbid - accidents waiting to happen that could involve bodily harm.

I feel your frustration also, although I am glad they do the updates because whenever I have gone the parks always look great. Our white whale is becoming Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Last time we rode it was 2010, as it was under refurb last time we went. My boys were disappointed to hear it will be down again, but we will still have a blast. We are finally going to slow down and go over to Tom Sawyers Island, now that both my boys have read the book. The are looking forward to it, so we will be sure to stop and smell the roses this trip!

I was disappointed to see the Boneyard would be closed for our visit, too, especially since it has been a GREAT place to let my two hyper children let off some steam. Oh well, I guess that just leaves us more time for them to terrorize the goats and pigs at Conservation Station.*

Many other theme parks close November - March. But as Disney is open 365 days a year they can't do the maintenance during the closed period like other parks, so things have to close, in most cases once a year but sometimes less frequently.

I just read it will open seasonally. Why not keep it open? Once it gets hot out, I could see it being real popular. Charging stations, cool inside. And it is at least something to do with all the closures at the park. I really don't understand some of the decisions they make.

You'll have plenty of time for that, especially if they start planing roses in the stand-by queues.

The comments I read are that it was not popular even with active encouragement to invite folks inside. Some blame location.

But from a $$$$ perspective, underutilized things tend to disappear.
