As long as my child uses a carseat in a car, she will use one on the plane. There are a myriad of reasons behind this but here are the main ones.
1) Her safety. Yes, turbulence may be rare but so is getting in a car wreck. Carseats are like insurance for your child's safety - you won't need it often but you'll be mighty glad you have it if the need arises. It is definitely inconvenient to carry the carseat and get it installed on the plane but I will never compromise my dd's safety for convenience.
2) She is used to her carseat and knows she must stay put when she is in it. No wanting to get up and walk around etc. This is immensely helpful on a plane ride and is worth a LOT in peace of mind to me. Traveling with a young child is hard enough without the added stress of chasing her around the plane.
3) I worry about the integrity of my carseat's safety being compromised by poor handling. I don't want the baggage handlers throwing it around or it getting wet etc. I have a nice backpack style carrier for it and it never leaves my control so I know it will not suffer any damage.
You must do what you feel is right for you but since you are taking the carseat anyway I would go ahead and use it on the plane. Why take the risk?
Have a Disney day,
