Another big thunder crash

I heard about this. This ride cannot catch a break. :( Hopefully we'll know more about the reasoning later. If this continues, no one is going to want to ride it anymore.

Wow...I just rode on Monday (07/05), everything seemed fine to me...

It's my favorite ride in Disneyland park.

the poll on the NBC page showed that 77% (so far) of people think the ride should stay open. I agree.

My sister and I were on it on the 4th. According to the news they say it was a minor accident and hope to have it up and running later tonight. I was teasing my sister we should go sit and wait for it to open tonight. I doubt they'll have it open tonight, espcially since they did end up sending the boy to the hospital.

The first thing I said to my sister when she called me was I wonder if it will be permanently closed soon. When I saw the poll I voted, I'm been refreshing the results, and they've stayed roughly the same percentages as people vote.

I'm confused as to how this could happen. I was under the impression that it was impossible for the trains to bump while the ride is in normal operation.

I wonder how this happened. It's one of my faves and I hope that they figure out a way to run it w/o things like this happening. I'm sure there will be a full explaination of this in the coming days. Years ago I came off the seat and slipped under the lap bar (I didn't fall out--I was stopped my chest, this was before they redesigned the restraints) on the bunny hill right before the turn onto the lift in the earthquake scene. Though I know that wasn't supposed to happen I actually consider that one of my best rides on it.

This is so strange....I hope the boy is okay and that the ride will remain open. It's such a great ride and has been perfectly safe to ride so many thousands of times. :(

i dunno if they would take it down for good. An extensive inspection maybe. I heard someplace that once every few years Roller Coaster trains need to be completely taken apart bolt by bolt and inspected. I dont remember if it was yearly or every other year.

Firefly you are right... its cant catch a break. I like it better than the WDW one though.. i dunno why its just.... better.

3 people were treated at local hospital and released, and despite wishing that the ride would "open later this evening", Big Thunder will be closed until the state can investigate.... again. sad ...:(

Hopefully they'll reopen it soon. I don't want it to be closed when I go next month.

It is a shame this ride doesn't seem to catch a break. I am glad everyone is ok. I hope it is open when go in just 16 days. This and all the rides at DL and GCA we are looking forward to riding.

I agree that that ride just cant catch a break- I hope they decide to TLC it intead of trashing it as it *is* one of the best rides ever there :)

-em<< Whose glad she rode BTMRR at WDW cause it looks like I wont get to at DL unless its back soon

They need to shut down this ride permanently.

3 very serious accidents in 1 year is unacceptable.

I dont know about permanently but I do think this many accidents in a short time is scary. Some of you say you hope it reopens soon but I think it should reopen after a very extensive check. If it had been your son, friend or yourself on that ride when an accident happened I doubt you would have wanted it opened soon. I also love this ride. Its one of my family favorites but something is obviously wrong either mechanical or human error?!!!:(

In my opinion there was only one serious accident. The first one. The second one happened when no one was on the ride, and those circumstances probably would never have happened while someone was on it anyway. These one also doesn't seem to be too serious. One car was slightly derailed, I agree, but not anything to cause major problems.

The second accident had nothing to do with the ride, but was operator error, which could have happened at any ride. My feeling is that this accident will also end up being operator error, but we'll see. I was just on this ride on July 4th, and would not think twice about riding again.

No matter what human error exists, the ride system should be redesigned with 2004 technology so that it is impossible for 2 vehichles to be in the same area at the same time.

Incident 1:
The ride crashes, 1 dead, 10 seriously injured.

Incident 2:
The ride crashes, Thank God no one was on board at the time.

Incident 3:
The ride crashes, 3 injured. According to the LA Times article, a 10 year old boy and his parents suffered back and neck injuries and had to be transported to the emergency room.

WDSearcher, I'm sure if you and your 10 year old son suffered back and neck injuries because a ride crashed, you would have a very different attitude. Disney needs to shut it down permanently. This is unacceptable.

Incident 2:The ride crashes, Thank God no one was on board at the time.
On Incident 2, that couldn't have happened with people on board. It was in manual mode. There's no "Thank God" about it.

I'm pretty sure that technology is already used. Based on recent news, it sounds like this had nothing to do with the block brakes. This happened at the loading area. The track switch supposedly malfunctioned.

I just read on Mouseplanet that the CA occupation and safety folks are keeping it closed for a few weeks while they check equipment and training. It seems it was operator error.
