Another bad sign on keeping the parks clean??

From hill's article.

Last Tuesday night, I noticed an empty blue "Dasani" bottle had been thrown on the rocks on the right side of the attraction a little past the waterfall after the big drop. The bottle was still there Wednesday morning. I mentioned the bottle to my family at dinner Wednesday, and enough of them were curious to see it that we rode again that evening. Sure enough, the bottle was still there. As it was on Thursday. And Friday. By Saturday morning, every adult in my family wanted to brave the wind chill to see whether the bottle was still around. Just like Brer Rabbit, Brer Blue Bottle was still part of the attraction. A call from my brother confirmed the bottle was still there as of Sunday morning.

O-M-G I saw that bottle, too! It was towards the end of the ride. My friend commented on it...how not Disney looking. I noticed it the 1st day I was there, but now I'm mad cuz I don't remember if it was there when we went back to MK....

But nowhere in the article did I notice that the person complaining about the bottle actualy took 2 minutes to mention the problems to a CM.

Now, if a guest noticed it, someone on cleanup or management should have noticed it. Part of the job description of the ones who clean up is .........cleanup.

Isn't the bottle only viewable if you're actually on the ride ? Maybe a CM simply hasn't seen it yet.

If it had been mentioned to a castmember, I guarentee it would have been taken care of. But noooo, people are to interested in making a point. To me the pathetic thing is the watching the problem and getting bent out of shape, instead of being part of the solution. If you are not part of the solution...your part of the problem.

A little off, but I metioned a bandaid and a piece of gum in June and the next week it was still there (same ride by the way) so just mentioning it didn't make a difference in that case.

So what we're saying is that there are 107 acres at MK to keep clean, but people are obsessing on one floating bottle at Splash Mountain, that may or may not be able to be seen by the custodial crew that cleans Frontierland. And that this one plastic bottle is proof positive that Disney cleanliness is slipping throughout all of WDW.

Yes, WDW should be sparkling clean at all times. But come on ... one floating bottle doesn't mean the next step is Six Flags.

Perspective, people.

If this was one bottle one time. But from reports ive read this does happen often as does peeling paint and other wear and tear that is easily visible to the public and not fixed ASAP as was the past practice. They now shutdown rides/attractions to save money which is similiar to what is done in SF parks and it seems there maintence is following suit. Escpecially is you add DL to the mix where is has resulted in the death of guests.

Hi Folks

I have just reurned from a world exclusive interview with the infamous Dasani water bottle (his name is Eric by the way!) He states that he is staging a sit in until his application to join Evian is reconsidered!

Part of enjoying clean parks is not having to point out litter to cast members. It just takes something away from the "Disney" experience... don't you think?

This isn't about one bottle. I'm sure that 21 years ago I bottle casually tossed in an out of the way waterway took more time to clear out (although I'd be shocked if it took this much time) The problem is that it is indicative of a general change in company attitude toward cleanliness and SHOW. It is just the latest in a long long long line of trash left out when in the "good old days" it would have been picked up.

Now me personally, I would of said something, but at the same time, it was an experiment of sorts was it not? It is Disney's JOB to notice these things, not mine. The experiment was to see how long it took Disney to notice.

***"Escpecially is you add DL to the mix where is has resulted in the death of guests."***

In the last article I read about the BTMRR death, the investigation concluded the accident was the result of maintenance workers improperly doing their jobs and in some instances actually signing off on work and inspections they hadn't performed.

Of course there is going to be trash in the parks. There always WAS trash in the parks. But because we all remember the Disney of our childhood in this nostalgic haze, we don't remember any peeling paint or a crumple of paper on a sidewalk -- we only remember pristine buildings and shiny rides. But it was always there.

Yes, there are fewer custodial people now and so some trash stays on the ground longer than it used to. And it takes longer to repaint than it used to. But I also think that there are more people who are going to WDW specifically to FIND those bits of trash and peeling paint than there ever used to be. They want to find things wrong so that it bolsters their "Eisner is Bad" platform. It doesn't matter where you go -- if you're looking for negative things, you'll find them. But to say that Disney is approaching Six Flags levels of upkeep is a vast exaggeration. And I think even you have to admit that. You're mad at Eisner and mad at Disney, so you're tossing out an insult. But even you, looking for every wrong thing possible, couldn't walk through an SF park anywhere and then go to Disney and say, "Yup ... this is just as dirty."

Erong, there was never any significant peeling Paint. NEVER. That was the whole point. Every night after close an entire section of the park would be repainted on a rotating basis. which meant ppaint touchups happened multiple times a year. This isn't nostalgic haze, this is documented fact.

Is eisner bad for disney, yes!!!!! As well as for my disney stock!!!
But that has nothing to do with the fact that the parks arent as clean as they used to be and they arent as well maintained as they used to, other than the fact that eisner is responsbile for these decisions that have impacted my enjoyment of the parks as well as many others(of course some refuse to believe anything negative about disney).
As for the comparsion between SF, while disney was head and shoulders above them, they are lowering themselves to SF's level, be it keeping the parks clean, closing rides during park hours and opening parts of the parks later, all just to save a few bucks at the guests expense.
As for BTMR at DL, if all levels of employee's/managment did their jobs the accident wouldnt have happened and didnt happen years ago but does now because its acceptable to management who perfer to save money on upkeep and will settle suits that arise years later at what they think are acceptable payouts.
Am i mad at eisner for the job he does, yeah. But that doesnt change the reports that you hear and read about, of course those who dont want to hear these truths will stick thei heads in the sand.
As for disney. im looking forward to my next visit but will have a great time, but if things dont change it wonmt be as good as past visits.

If you're referring to the sand at the Caribbean Beach Resort, it used to be beautifully raked every morning but was never raked on my last visit.

Jim Hill has an interesting follow-up featuring emails from CMs and former CMs. One email blames a new computer CM deployment system as the culprit for poor maintenence.

When I was at Tokyo Disneyland in Oct. 2001, I was shocked at some of the cleaning procedures. Flocks of CMs would race up to an outdoor queue, block off part of it, clean the ground, block off another part, clean the ground, and race off. It was entertaining and the ground was clean enough to eat off of - although not neccessary due to the copious amounts of open restaurants and available seating areas.

By the way - has Chris returned to RnRc? You remember him/her in the studio. "Chris, can you grab my Les Paul." That was cut back on my last visit and broke the realism of the scene since the band member is now talking to thin air. Just another cutback I suppose.

Gee, was it not like that at WDW at one time? Also Disneyland.

I remember the guys in white with brooms all over the place. I think they had a contest going the first one to allow a piece of paper to hit the ground bought the drinks.
