Another Baby/Ride Question

I am the best for planning Disney World vacations for myself, DH and my DD11, but I do not have experience with planning for us and a baby (6 months old).

1. I think I've got the baby swap thing down, but how sure can I be about CMs allowing my DD11 to re-ride again when DH switches off the baby to me? 2. And do we see a CM first before getting into line to get a swap pass?

3. Sorry if this is a dumb question. Also, can I take my baby on (in my lap) or in the BabyBjorn?:

MK: WDW railroad, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Carribean, Swiss Family Tree House, Tom Sawyer Island, The Haunted Mansion, Cindy's Carrousel, Dumbo, It's A Small World, Mad Tea Party, Snow White Scary Adv., Winnie the Pooh, Mickey's Phil, Peter Pan, and the Transit Authority.

Epcot: Nemo, Living w/ the Land, El Rio Del Tiempo, Malestrom and Journey Into Imagination.

MGM: The Great Movie Ride

AK: Kilamanjaro Safaris

4. Also, all of the sitdown and inside sitdown shows are OK to take baby in, right?

5. TL: The only place for a baby would be in the lazy river (?) and in the baby pool areas, right?

Sorry for being so specific, but I just need to be sure. Bad me for not paying attention to my surroundings when I'm out there so with that being said I've never paid attention to babies at WDW.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have taken my baby on pretty much everything that doesn't have a height requirement. ;) For the rides that do, you go up to the CM with your baby and everyone in your party and they will give you a rider switch pass. If one of you has fastpasses, go to the fastpass return line with the baby and they'll give you one while everyone else gets in the line. Have fun!

Thank you! OK I think I got it now, but one more question hopefully.

So the FP thing will be like a two for 1 deal with a baby switch. Or do I need a FP too??? To be clearer, when we go to get FP we get one for everybody and I can still get a rider switch pass when I go into the FP line, right?

What we would do is get one fastpass for the ride (so you would get 2 if you want DS to ride both times...he'd need it for the first go-through) and then get a babyswap "ticket" from the CM at the entrance to the fastpass line. After one adult and DS ride with their 2 fastpasses, the other adult can take DS back on using the babyswap ticket (no fastpass needed). Often the babyswap return is actually the fastpass line, so there can be a little wait, but not much. You can do the same thing without fastpasses, but the first time one adult and DS would have to wait in the regular line and then with the babyswap ticket you could go through the fastpass line. Does that make sense?

OK I got it finally. I'm seeing that the only rides with height restrictions are the ones that I wouldn't take my baby on anyway so this is great. It won't be so bad with baby afterall.

Thanks you two!

I do want to suggest that at 6 months old, you might start looking into a different sort of carrier than the Bjorn. A nice Mei Tai, an Ergo, something that spreads baby's weight a bit better on your back, and that's nicer on baby's pelvis as baby gets heavier.

As for riding with baby in the carrier...I mei tai'd (front carry...see my avatar pic for a visual if you wish) my then 1+ year old around Disneyland, but he really doesn't like sitting down while in any carrier (never has), so I untied and took him out for rides. I don't know about WDW, but the folks at DLand did make sure he wasn't in a carrier (then again he was almost one year older than yours) for the rides, though they were mostly fine with him on a lap (not Autopia though, but again, he was older, and I don't know if WDW has that ride).

And I think it's been answered, but the rider switch pass does allow for two people to go back. I know WDW doesn't have Indiana Jones ride, but that was our first Switch ride...we all went up to the CM, got a slip of paper. My hubby, brother, and SIL got in the regular line (it was a slow morning and there wasn't much of a line) while I waited with DS outside. (in retrospect I should have walked around but I didn't realize how LONG that line is, even they had had FPs!) Then they came out the exit, I passed DS over to DH, and my SIL and I went through the FP entrance, which on that ride was the *exit*, until it met with the regular line inside. They tell you that you can take another person with you, or at least they did us at DL every time we Switched! :)

Have fun!

Thank you for this info! I have a hand me down BabyBjorn and I figured a 6 mo. could fit and be comfy. I will look into the ones you suggested just in case my baby is a big one. I don't want carry along an unhappy baby. Oh and yes, I'd take the baby out of the carrier while on rides. That will make it more comfy for the both of us.

Another question...I can take my 6 month old on Triceratops Spin because it's equivalent to Dumbo, correct?

six month old
1. I think I've got the baby swap thing down, but how sure can I be about CMs allowing my DD11 to re-ride again when DH switches off the baby to me? The Baby Swap ticket that the CM will hand you says something about it being good for up to three guests. We've always taken our oldest ds (6) on rides when we've done the swap because of the youngest.

2.And do we see a CM first before getting into line to get a swap pass? I always go up to the CM that is at the front of the line entrance, either because of the CM checking heights or the FP line, and ask for a Baby Swap ticket while holding ds (2 yr. old)

Yes to all of the above. The only time I ran into an issue while ds was in the Baby Bjorn was that I could't ride the Indy cars.

Epcot: Nemo, Living w/ the Land, El Rio Del Tiempo, Malestrom and Journey Into Imagination. Malestrom is the only one I can foresee them saying that the baby must be out of the carrier. I can't remember if I took our ds out or not.

MGM: The Great Movie Ride Yes

AK: Kilamanjaro Safaris Yes

4. Also, all of the sitdown and inside sitdown shows are OK to take baby in, right? Yes, and if leaving the baby in the carrier keeps the baby quiet those around you will thank you. :)

5. TL: The only place for a baby would be in the lazy river (?) and in the baby pool areas, right? You can take a baby in the regular pool as long as they have a swim diaper on. A swim diaper is also required for the baby pool area.

Have fun!!

Something else... a six month old baby might be pushing the limits of a Baby Bjorn (I know mine were almost too big at four months, lol). If your baby can sit up you might want to consider a backpack carrier with a kickstand. You can take the carrier off and prop it up on the kickstand which is nice for some of the shows that you have to sit down on the floor for (Playhouse Disney comes to mind). A sling type carrier would also work well.

Another question...I can take my 6 month old on Triceratops Spin because it's equivalent to Dumbo, correct?

Yes, it's just like Dumbo. It has two rows of seats unlike Dumbo, which only has one but it's pretty much the same ride.

I agree with the PP about the Bjorn. It was NOT comfortable when my DD was six months. I got the ERGO and I love it. Easy to use, can be adjusted for me and DH. It is a bit pricey, but it lasts until 45 lbs. and can be worn in three different positions. HTH
