Another alcohol question

Bottles get broken, cans don't.

Cans can be punctured and crushed. If you've ever seen Shmoo's picture of the way checked bags are thrown around and end up in gigantic piles on top of each other, you would never want someone else to check liquids. And therefore you wouldn't want to be someone who checks such liquids.

We got off the Dream last Friday and when we went through security at the port we (2adults) had a 12pack in a backpack and several waters in another bag. No one looked or said a word. The water could have been something else and they had no idea if we were together or not when things were going through the scanner.

Each guest 21 years of age and older is allowed either 6 beers (12 oz max each) OR 2 bottles of wine/champagne (75ml max) at embarkation and from each port of call.

750 ml for each bottle, max. 75 ml is 2.5 oz.

ok so basically its not worth it to try to cheat the system- and everything goes in your carry on bags- as far as 6 packs of beer, has anyone brought bottles, there are some pretty good beers out there with pretty high alcohol content, just wondering if anyone has done this- I'm really not a wine girl, really a vodka girl- wish i could bring that in my bag

We stopped at Publix to buy wine before our last cruise and then went to the liquor store. I was surprised at the number of vodka brands in bottles that look just like wine bottles.

Any beverages you bring onboard are supposed to be in your carry on bags. Beverages in checked bags may be confiscated.

As to whether coolers will be allowed, no they are not. Only "Beer" and "Wine or Champagne". Yes, a cooler can look like a beer in a security scanner. But only you know whether you'll be comfortable scamming the system.

They could ask you to open your bags, if they are suspicious as to what that can/bottle actually is. Or not.
I don't think a cooler is scamming the system. When a Smirnoff ice many consider a cooler and/or beer alternative. Smirnoff ice even says "flavored beer" in the bottle.

To some, if it doesn't say "BEER" in big bold letters then you are a miscreant, lout and scallywag who should be left on the shore waving bon voyage at all the people who follow every rule, all the time, everywhere. You're in the same class as people who stay in the left lane until the last second to merge, people who speed up through a yellow light and people who drown kittens.

Probably so.

This just made my day :)

If it says "beer" on the label then you're good to go. If it doesn't, then said beverage isn't allowed.

Yes, I pretty much see things in black and white.

No reason to, when I can read in between the lines as well. Always challenge the status quo.

YOU may not think it is scamming the system but if you were to write DCL and ask for clarification and ask is this an acceptable substitution, the answer you would receive back in writing is.... NO, it is not. Substitutions are not acceptable. They are allowing "traditional" beer to be carried on.

Flavored beer is still beer. Duh.

Well keep in mind, "they" (the ones scanning your carry-on items are not DCL employees) so I would not exactly say that They do not care. DCL very much cares but DCL is not allowed to do that job, it has to be done by customs and border patrol!! DCL cannot control CBP.
It is times like this when I see people trying to cheat the system, that I would be happy to see Disney go to a ZERO carry on policy.

CHEAT THE SYSTEM?????

Give me a break, this was and is one of Disney's worse decisions ever!. Only reason is to make more money!

Do you know who long it took for Disney to get rid of smoking on verahdas ????

There's always the Justice Stewart definition (oh, never mind, that wasn't beer).

Seems to simple to me…instead of getting the definition of beer from DIS posters, just write or call DCL and ask them! Respect is a two-way street.

Beer is beer. If it says beer on the bottle. Then good to go. Cut and dry to me. Funny to see how easy the answer is when it's right on the bottle. Don't see why everyone always needs to over think and complicate the situation.

I have plenty of beers in my cellar that don't say "beer" on the label. By definition, they are beer, but they don't say that. They might say Barleywine. They might say Saison. They might say Radler. They might have all sorts of different beer *types* on them, but they don't necessarily say Beer. By your definition, a bottle of wine would have to say wine on it, and I don't know of many that say wine. They'll say Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Aligote or other. :rainbow:

I agree completely. Then you will see many on here that would argue it's breaking a rule. Some people just want to be a hall monitor for some unknown reason. Like they are the last authority on the subject when honestly. I do what I want because I can.
