I thought aaa was supposed to be cheaper but not for me.
Feb 9-14 2007 rate for Pop Century (2) 1 day tickets with dining is:
Preferred room-$1218.16
Standard room-1163.96

If we decide to go October 19-24 2007 same package the rate is:
Preferred room-$1326.36
Standard room-$1268.76

Doesnt that sound high? My quote from DU was quite a bit cheaper. :confused3

I just went to disney's website and they are cheaper than aaa.
Feb 9-14 2007 rate for Pop Century (2) 1 day tickets with dining is:
Preferred room-$1066.02
Standard room-$998.22

October 19-24 2007 same package the rate is:
Preferred room-$1162.12
Standard room-$1094.32

I know my local AAA office automatically adds trip insurance unless you specifically ask to have it left off. It's about $200, and that sounds like about the difference you're experiencing. That doesn't explain, however, why there's no discount by using AAA on the room rate.

Does the DU quote include a AAA discount? If so, I think the trip insurance might be what is throwing the numbers off.

AAA insurance was only $120 for us. But also, the AAA rate includes taxes and the Disney website does not include them for the room. At about 12% that makes a big difference.

thanks for the input, I called a different aaa agent someone else recommended and the rates were better.

Feb 9-14 2007
Standard room-$905.62
Preferred room-$959.82

Oct 19-24 2007
Standard room-$1010.42
Preferred room-$1068.09

The sales tax is higher than 12 percent. It is actually 18 percent: 6.5 for the Florida sales tax and 11.5 for the county sales tax which adds up to 18 percent. When you add that on to your room rate, it adds on quite a bit. Example: POP room is $99. per night. $99 x .18 = $17.82. $99 + 17.62 = $116.62 per night.

It's even worse at the All-Star resorts. The Florida sales tax is 7 percent and the county tax is 13 percent for a whopping 20 percent!!!

Just read on this thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1188712 that the orange county tax rate wil be going up to 12.5 percent from 11.5 percent as of September 1, 2006. This will include all resorts except the All-Stars which are already at 13 percent.

Baileybelle, I just wanted to let you know that your tax information is incorrect here. You are not paying 6/5% FL sales tax plus 11.5% county sales tax. You are paying a total of 12.5% and 13% combined tax of resort tax, etc.
With the newly imposed Orange County resort tax increase you are paying 12.5% TOTAL tax on your reservation for Orange County effective September 1st, and 13% TOTAL tax in Osceola County which remains unchanged.

Thanks Sue Ellen. I'm not a Florida resident, but if you read the following excerpt from www.allearsnet.com, it appears there is a separate florida sales tax which is 6.5% and a resort tax at 11.5%. This excerpt is about POP. http://allearsnet.com/acc/faq_pop.htm

What are the room prices?

The room rates will be the same as the All Star Resorts. Just like the other WDW hotels, there are Value Season, Regular Season, Peak Season and Holiday Season rates. Rates begin at $79 a night. These are regular rate prices and do not include the 6.5% Florida Sales Tax nor the 11.5% county resort tax. Rates are based on double occupancy. No charge for children under 17 years old when in the same room as the adults. Prices are based on two adults per room; there is a $10 per night per person charge for each extra adult in the room. Maximum of 4 persons per room

That is a clearly a mistake in All Ears. The tax TOTAL at Pop (and other Orange County resorts) is 12.5% (with the new 1% increase) The room rate is $79 in value season, and adding the 11.5% tax (which is what it is until September 1st) makes the nightly rate $88.09. With the new change it makes the nightly rate with tax in 2006 $88.88 in value season for a standard view room.

FL does have a 6.5% sales tax on purchases and such...and may be part of the tax on the resort (as the resort tax in Orange County is now 6% vs. the previous 5%--if you add the new increased resort tax of 6% to the sales tax of 6.5% you get the new 12.5% TOTAL tax rate.

Sue Ellen: Thank you for clearing that all up. I have one more question. I have booked my package thru AAA in August for my April, 2007 with deposit. My final payment is not due until March, 2007. Will I be paying the 11.5% or the 12.5% on my final payment? Thanks for all your help.

The resort tax increase goes into effect Sept 1 2006. Any packages booked and not paid in full by Aug 31 06 will pay the new increased sales tax. All packages paid for in full on or before Aug 31 06 pay the current tax. All pacakges booked on or after Sept 1 07 will be qouted with the new tax.
