Pointed out elsewhere and since it hasn't been mentioned here that I've seen here. The below quote is the most recent version I found. It now says the ap has to be activated to register. Not sure if it's said that for previous previews and you could still reg with a cert but thought it should be posted.

Important Information

  • Advance registration is required. Eligible activated Annual Pass is required to register.
  • Platinum, Platinum Plus and Premier Passholders must register by making an online reservation for ONE event.
  • Valid Annual Pass and photo ID are required at check-in for each Passholder and Passholder Guest.
  • Reservations are limited and are subject to availability.
It hasn't because they've not gone through this dog and pony show before. By that I mean announcing so far out that people called so much they had to make a second announcement. Officially if asked they have always said it had to be activated. Even though that was not the case.

But did it say it in print? Because earlier today it didn't. I trust written word more than the phone cms.

Honestly, I don't really trust either- but if this is the case, then we're out for sure. I'm the only one in my family with an activated AP and I certainly wouldn't go alone- they'd kill me. lol It will be interesting to see how it plays out and to see if those of mine who don't have an activated AP even get the emails as the CM we spoke with claimed.

I got my voucher feb last year and didn't get any emails until after I activated in nov. Not that I could go to any of the stuff.

I've had an AP for years and have never gotten any notifications of AP events. All my settings are correct according to me and the CM I spoke with and I've made no changes recently on my end at least. My daughter, who has a voucher gets emails regularly from disney destinations since she linked her AP a few months ago, so go figure. The CM she spoke with only made a couple of changes on her settings to add a few more things that she hadn't opted into. I'm specifically talking about the AP preview email, since I know she already gets other things. There was some disney destinations email she got today about the celebration pkg for HEA, even before the call to the AP line. She's my source for email information and I have the activated AP! lol

No but what I'm saying is there was never an opportunity or mainly a reason for them to put it in print. So the lack of it in print for past events isn't telling of anything much.

Does anyone else think its sneaky of Disney to raise AP prices the day before SWGE/AP preview announcement so people would buy a now more expensive AP online (i.e. voucher) just so they can get into SWGE early and now the passholder page says it must be an "activated" AP and not a voucher? At first it looked like a money grab for SWGE early access, now it appears to be more like a "money grab" bait and switch.

With the repeated moderator requests to try to keep things as on topic as possible given the circumstances, let's not turn this thread into this kind of discussion. The DIS is an open forum and other threads can be created to discuss such matters if so inclined.

Thanks all.

I have been following along quietly for quite a while but would just like to echo the requests of the mods to keep this thread respectful and on topic. I (as many others here) am not counting on getting an email so I am relying on this community and this thread to help in my chances at scoring spots at an AP preview. Please don’t get this shut down.
Thanks:)

Might it be a good idea to change the thread title, as the current one does perhaps encourage more general discussion? Perhaps something like "Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at WDW - Annual Passholder Preview registration details". As you say, separate threads could be started for any future possible DVC, CM, etc previews to try to cut down on the clutter here.

[Edit I just realised, 157 pages, later, that this thread is in a Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Info & Planning sub-forum. I obviously came to it via a link though, and only ever return to it via my subscribed list where the forum info is tiny, so I'm sure I'm not the only one who only ever sees the main thread title]

FYI - I filled out the request form to make certain my email address was linked to my annual pass. I received a response from Disney with detailed instructions to check 'communication preferences'. Lo and behold, Disney resorts was not checked.
The email went on to state it may take THIRTY days for the change to take effect. We shall see what happens.

I know if you go into your profile, select communication preferences and then select privacy choices website underneath marketing messages it will bring you to a site to opt into emails from various Disney related things.... problem is I see no pass holder options.
There doesn't need to be a passholder option. Just check all the boxes and supposedly that will allow you to recieve email from the sources that would send AP information. As I said in an earlier post, I was told that I needed to call and have them check my status as well as making sure it was correct on my end. That said, a lot of people seem to have done all that and still don't get the emails. I have not been getting them, but yesterday was the first time I called and had them go over my communication preferences- we'll see how that works out.

Which in itself is a bit of a problem. In order to receive specific emails from one service that I have requested (i.e. communications directly about my purchased Annual Pass) I should not be forced to have to opt in to general Disney World spam important marketing information.

IMHO how to set account settings in order to receive email regarding the upcoming SWGE AP preview is on topic. A moderator is free to delete this post if I'm wrong. Any poster who has an issue with this should report my post and not clutter this thread. Obviously I'll respect the moderators judgement.

I spoke to AP services a few minutes ago. Hope this helps some.

Firefox doesn't work well with the Disney site. Preferences I made a few days ago with Firefox didn't stick. CM had me use Chrome. Log into Disney Experience. Go to Profile, Communicate Preferences , click on link for privacy choices website, go to email preferences. Go down to Disney Parks and Resort Business. Make sure you're subscribed to Walt Disney World Resort(from Disney Destinations)

That is the only option that's necessary. It sounds like he's answered this question many times. He confirmed an activated pass is required for AP preview at SWGE.

Can we speculate that the requirement for an activated Plat, Plat + or Premiere pass may make it somewhat easier to sign up?

for the Canadians This isn't an AP only election. I'll speculate opting in will result in emails which might constitute spam.

Debating about the requirement to accept other marketing emails in order to receive AP specific emails souldn't be done in this thread.

edited to add. Many posters think there will be a generic link, maybe the same like previously used for FoP. Disney is now requiring an activated Plat Pass. Is it possible the email will include some kind of link with a PIN? I have no idea. All things equal I'd like this thread to supplement any email I might get from Disney, not replace it.

But it is about help getting comminations from Disney for the event. No?
How to set up personal communications preferences feels off topic, tangental at best, to the thread that is being used to watch for the link to go live. Even is a user doesn't get an email directly, as you have stated several times, they can find a link here.

I am not trying to argue with anyone. Like everyone following, I don't want the thread closed for topics that have been discussed in prior pages of the thread (like this one) or for issues that can be solved by picking up the phone, or just creating a new thread.
