Annual Passholder Dining Plan question

I am considering adding the quick service dining plan to our passholder room reservation.

What is the latest possible date I can do this? Can I add it at check in or does it have to be several days before arrival?

I like the cancel policy of room only vs a package, so just in case I would like to wait as long as possible.

Thanks.

You cannot add the DDP at check-in. It has to be done several days in advance (I think it's 3 full days, 72 hours). At that point, you will convert your "room only" reservation to an AP "ticketless package" which means all the rules for a package will apply (i.e., full payment due).

Correct - it is 72 hours or more in advance. And you will have to pay your balance due at that time - for both the dining plan and your room.

A dining plan can't be added to a room only reservation, and they can't just convert a room only reservation to a package. That room will be cancelled, and rebooked as a package. So I don't know what that might mean for availability if you wait for the last minute. You should also do it at least 6 days ahead of time, since that is when cancellation policies start for a room-only reservation.

I didn't think about the availability issue. Thanks for the info.

I may wait it out and see. I think it would cost the same compared to what take in cash to pay OOP but we would get more food. We have never been on the dining plan and thought we would give it a try.

I had a room only booked for our trip Oct 27th-Nov 4th. This past weekend my husband decided he wanted to add the DDP. Because adding the DDP makes it a pkg, the CM had to cancel the room only and rebook it as a pkg. He had to credit my credit card for the room only amount, then recharged my credit card the full amount of the pkg (AP room, plus DDP). He checked with a supervisor and there is no way to move monies paid from a room only ressie to a pkg ressie (switching from a room only to another room only or from a pkg to another pkg is not a problem, but switching from a room only to a pkg or from a pkg to a room only requires them to refund the cc, then recharge and if you are within the 45 day mark for a pkg they charge the full amount). Thankfully, I go online and pay my Chase Visa off every week or so, so had plenty of credit on it. The full amount they charged for the pkg has already cleared my cc, but the amount refunded may take one to two billing cycles to clear. I just checked and it's still not even pending, so make sure you have enough on your credit card to cover the total of the pkg.

Does adding the dining plan only apply if you have booked an AP rate room or can any AP holder add the dining plan to any rack rate reservation? :confused3

Thanks!

AP rate or rack rate. You have to book a ticketless AP package with dining. It has all the same payment and cancellation rules as other packages.

also, be aware that the AP rate is not always a discounted rate. So if you add dining you don't always get a discounted room rate plus the cost of the dining plan, only if there are discounted rooms available, then add dining do you get a good price. It is very confusing. We had a room booked at POR in Jan. 13.
the total price with 3 nights+dining was 984.00. When I did the math I realized that was rack rate plus the cost of 2 adult dining plan. The only way to get a good room rate was to give up the dining plan and book a room only res. The savings was 530.00. That is way more than the cost of the dining plan for 3 days. Since there are no rooms available with AP disc. plus dining we will forgo it and pay OOP--much cheaper. Sorry so long.

An AP rate room is a discounted room. But you are correct in that AP rate rooms are not always available.

You are correct. I should have said they are not deeply discounted like the other offers often available. Our AP discount was 0, because when they group it together with a package, giving other items for "free" , Planet Hollywood coupon, spa discounts, free refillable mug, etc. The rack rate for our room is 184.00 pn, we were paying $ 208.00pn, all to buy the dining plan. Not a good deal or a discount.
