If we want to visit a park later in the day, let's say, 4 pm, a reservation is also required, correct?
 
If it is the first park of the day, yes. If you are hopping from another park, no.

Yes. The first visit of the day to any park requires a reservation, regardless of the time you enter. You also must check into that park before going to a different park.
So if you're locked into Magic Kingdom but want to go to Epcot instead, if Epcot doesn't have availability to switch your reservation, you'd have to go to MK, check in, then head to Epcot.
 
Yes…. You need a reservation to go into your first park even if your just planning to pop in for fireworks
