well, there's the defining answer. it makes sense, you need to to define which state you're actually a resident of. we had to fight our employers to have the state taxes deducted from our paychecks for awhile after we moved here and got reimbursed.

I have an even bigger nightmare scenario for ya...I live in one state, but for a long time dh and I both worked at least part time in another state (Rhode Island is very small so a lot of people live here but work in MA or even CT). I had to do some fancy calculations to figure out my state taxes due to/from each state, each year, and I file the tax returns myself. It was doable and I'm actually kind of glad I'm savvy enough to figure it out and get it right (even held up to a random audit one year, woohoo!)...but WOW, what a PITA! It took forever and involved a ton of percentage calculations and extra paperwork. Blah.
You used to be able to get a Florida Drivers License with a restriction of "valid for in-state driving only" that had your Florida address on it.
One of my co-workers at the USPS had one of these because he still owned a house in New York and did not want to surrender his New York Drivers License.
He submitted his mortgage, electric bill and showed his NY license to get the Florida only license.
You might want to check and see if this is still available.
