We are leaving in six days(woo-hoo) and I was thinking of updating our tickets to annual passes. I have a surprise trip planned for October with a room only pin and currently have it made it to a package. Can I just have the dining plan added if I have annual passes or do I still need a one day ticket per person on the ressie? Thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I'd call and ask but as I understand it you will still need a one day ticket to get the package. I don't believe that AP dining can be added to a special package or pin UNLESS it is an AP rate package. In other words I think unless you pay rack room for your room that you can't add dining unless you buy a 1 day ticket. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong? (I kinda hope I am ;))

If you are booking a regular general public package then you will have to add at least one day of base tickets. I recently did an online chat with a disney rep about the current special offer with early June dates and "yes" you must buy tickets.

If, however, special AP rates are released for October and you decide to change your booking to an AP package then "no" you do not need to buy tickets. The total will be the AP hotel rate+dining.

you won't need to spend $$ on any additional tickets if you have AP's. Go ahead and have the room only package for your October trip( to save your room slot), but lose the tickets and dining. One the AP discounts come out, then call Disney and they will then change the ressie to an AP package with the AP discount and at that time you will add the dining. OR....just cancel the whole Oct trip and just rebook once the AP discounts come out. (The discounts usually determine where we'll stay)

We booked our Sept trip in January thinking we would just "hold" it until a discount came out. Well, imagine my surprise when the CM said, do you want to use the AP room discount? She figured it for me and we added the dining and we're all set. I crunched the numbers on my own and I got a 40% AP discount.

I just remembered that when I booked my last AP trip, I had a "AP pin " under my name for MOST dates in 2011- Save 35 % on values and moderates, and 40% on Deluxes. You could prob go ahead and book under a AP discount. It's worth a call.

No, you do not have to purchase additional tickets to have the dining plan added to your reservation. The only time we've ever had to add a ticket is if we booked under the Free Dining Discount as that is part of the package deal.

This is assuming an AP rate comes out. I'd be leery of losing your pin discount with the possibility that AP's might not come out. There currently is a lot of discussion about AP rates going to AP pins. I'd be cautious.

If they are paying rack rate or using an AP discount then no they would not have to buy park tickets, but since they are using a PIN then they would. The only people who are able to get the DDP and not have to buy park tickets are:
1. AP holders paying rack rate or using an AP discount for the room
2. people staying on DVC points
3. some of the military deals

If you are using any of the other discounts (GP codes, bouncebacks, or PIN codes) then even AP holders must buy at least one day park tickets in order to add the DDP (two day park tickets for free dining though).

Actually, that's not entirely true. I booked my room-only reservation with a AAA discount. I told the CM that I have an AP. The CM asked if I would like to book the dining plan, since I can get it without extra tickets. I declined, since we don't use the DP, but I was eligible for it.
