Annual pass upgrade

I am having a hard time deciding whether or not to get annual passes this time. Our 1st day is Nov1. If we are on our 5th day of a 5 day PH, can I decide to upgrade to AP and count Nov 1 as day one? Would the entire price of the PHP go toward the cost of the AP?

A qualified yes. The qualifier is this: it must be done prior to the close of business 7 days from the first use OR prior to the close of business on the day of the final major park admission use before the ticket would be used up.

In your case, if you got to a major park on each day, Nov 1-5, then you would have to do it prior to the close of business on 11/5. You can always do it sooner if you desired. The AP would indeed be backdated to Nov 1. If the ticket is completely used up and you decide on November 6 or 7 to do the upgrade, you will be out of luck.

Would the entire price of the PHP go toward the cost of the AP?

If you bought it from a Disney source, yes.

If you bought it from a non-Disney ticket wholesaler, no. You will only get credit for the wholesale price of the ticket purchased from a wholesaler, not the retail price you paid them.

Not counting the alternative of the limited times of year offered Fairy Tale Package, these figures should help roughly in deciding to buy an AP:

Regular AP: More than 10 Disney days in one sitting, or more than eight within a year taken in two or more trips.

Premium AP: More than 14 Disney days in one sitting, or more than ten within a year taken in two or more trips. And four or more waterpark or Disney Quest visits or Pleasure Island weeks*.

*Any number of PI evenings in a 6 day span counts as one cash admission for comparing the difference for justifying an AP. If you plan on going more than once in a 6 day span, buying a separate PI ticket with the 5 dollars more option is cheaper than using the pluses on a hopper plus pass.

If you turn in a hopper plus pass towards a non=premium AP, remaining plusses are lost.

A premium AP will never beat a regular AP if you don't go to the minor parks. But the premium AP gives you the convenience of going into a minor park often for just one or two hours and not feel you wasted anything.
