Does anyone know where I can find the annual pass resort discounts? I am considering purchasing an AP to get a better room discount, but disney's site won't show me the discounts unless I have an annual pass. I want to make sure it would be wort my money before I purchase the AP

Its certainly not worth the money. You can save more on your room by booking on Orbitz and using a promo code. Orbitz rooms will have the standard discount for the general public, you can stack a coupon which is generally 15%. The annual pass discount is generally 5%. We have annual passes and book on Orbitz rather than using the AP discount if we are booking room only (which we did as recently as last October)

The AP discount isn't "generally" 5 percent. I'm not sure where you're getting that number.

I've never actually seen an AP discount that low. Currently we have a spring AP discount on the first half of our June trip that is 37%. The second half of our stay is discounted 35%. Recently, AP discounts have been at least as good, sometimes a bit better than the general discounts. However, they generally are the last discounts to be released and supply can be very limited. It was with us this year and we had to book a split stay in order to use it- or any other discount for that matter, due to the timing of our trip.

Since you can book the AP rate without purchasing the AP in advance, it's always a good thing to keep in mind. Should you find you can make use of the AP rate, book then buy your AP. I wouldn't buy it in advance of booking unless I was making multiple trips in 1 year- guaranteeing I was saving money.

I, like others who have replied, have never seen an AP discount of 5%. Mine have always been in the 35% range. Would really like to know where you get that 5% figure.

I think what was meant is that the AP offers an additional 5% discount beyond the discount available to the general public

Thanks for the info. I was wondering the same as well but couldn't get to the AP discounts on the Disney website. 37% off a deluxe resort sounds great!!

Here's the problem....

You have a hotel worth say $225 a night in a Disney Deluxe. So Disney marked it up to $429 a night and now they give you a "generous" 35% discount and it's now going for $280 (and these are real example) So... for me the AP Discounts are no longer worth it. I just cannot justify Disney pricing for the quality of the room and service. Yes the location is good, but even in real estate you can overpay for location. (Not to mention that I can generally get the Swan/Dolphin for under $200 with AAA and that's just as good a location as a lot of Disney deluxes.. yes there's a resort fee and I have to pay for my own transport, but none of that has ever added up to the price of a Disney "deluxe" and there are better "perks" at Swan/Dolphin, like the ability to earn FREE stays. AKA as "Rewarding your returning guests" not something Disney does LOL! )

Also, do NOT purchase until you are sure you can get the discount you want. You can call and book or get one of the Disney TAs to book for you with the discount. Then you buy IF you get the room. It's not all rooms, all the time even when Discounts are offered.

So... for me the AP Discounts are no longer worth it.

The OP wasn't questioning whether a Disney resort is worth what they charge. They were asking if the discount using the AP was enough to justify buying an AP. Those are 2 completely different subjects.

I think a lot of us recognize the marketing tool Disney is using, but they do it because it's effective. While I'd much prefer more realistic pricing and doing away with all discounts- ask JC Penny how that worked out for them. People love a "discount" even when it really isn't one.

People should spend their money how they see fit. We think what we're paying for our resort is "worth it". You don't. Neither opinion is wrong.

No, but the "great discount" is rather misleading. And sorry if I don't feel compelled to support misleading advertising and pricing. IMHO Disney has become the "carpet dealer" of hotels. They marked the prices way up just so they can have a "Sale" and offer you a deal. To me that's just sleazy

Well then you definitely should not book with them. No need to apologize, you don't like their pricing structure. Ok. I don't believe anyone asked you to support them. As I said, the OP was simply asking how much the discounts were- not were Disney resorts a good value.

It was a simple question and I'm not sure why everything has to be turned into a debate on the good or evil of Disney but it always seems to work that way.

We bought APs this year. Not as much for the room discount but for the other discounts, and the ability to get a TIW card. And to go more often. There are other benefits to an AP than a room discount. I will say if that's the only discount you'd use then it would likely not be worth it.

If you feel that strongly about their business practices why on earth do you even go to their parks? Seems to me someone calling Disney's business sleazy wouldn't give them a penny.

this is exactly what I mean. Whenever they have an AP discount for room only it is 5% or so more than the discount that you could get as the general public. Never have I seen the spread being 15% and you can get 15% with the promo code from Orbitz on top of the general public room discount

Ok well her is the current promo

Annual pass holders save UP TO 37% off deluxe UP TO 30% off moderate UP TO 25% off value (up to depends on the hotel you book)

General public save UP TO 25% off deluxe UP TO 20% off moderate UP TO 15% off value (up to depends on the hotel you book)

So basically none of the AP discounts would save you more than stacking the general public discount on top of the orbitz promo code (which gives you 15% off above the general public room offers, plus you can use ebates to save a bit more)

Bottom line for the OP- My suggestion is, if you are not making multiple trips within a year that you wait for the discounts to come out and if the AP offers you the best savings, book it and then buy your ap. There is no need to buy it in advance. Some people, me including me, aren't comfortable booking through a third party.
