Annual Pass question good 1 year from purchase or use?

Question if I purchase an annual pass is it effective from the date of purchase or the date of first use?
I asked this on the Facebook group because the wording on the Disney website makes it seem like from date of purchase. 2 people in the Facebook group seemed very sure you get a certificate and then once you activate it it’s one year from then.
i was just in the Grand Floridan and asked the concierge and they said its One year from date of purchase NOT first use. I said I’m coming back in December and they said don’t buy it now because I’ll lose 2 months just buy it in December.
does anyone have any clarity on this please

Can you get a refund on passes if you haven’t used them yet? If you can’t how long is it good for before it expires if you never use it?

I bought one last night. The phone CM told me the expiration date on the account is for activation and after activation, the date will reset for one year from the activation date.
Passes aren't refundable, but if you don't use it before expiration, you'll retain the value toward the purchase of another pass or ticket.

So let’s say now my December reservation is a cash stay (it’s cheaper to buy an annual pass than add tickets to a package for the number of trips we have coming up) and I buy my annual pass now so I can make my park reservations do I do it as a resort guest or annual pass holder since I don’t want it to count as my 4 reservations?

I bought my annual pass 2 days ago. I was also looking for the answer to this question at that time but couldn't find it. Even though I'm not moving down to Orlando for another month, I ultimately decided to buy it now and lose on the month just in case Disney cancelled selling any more new Annual Passes like they did last year. I didn't want to find myself in that situation that a lot of people found themselves in last year. Better safe than sorry.

It is an automatic thing, you don't get to pick what "bucket" your reservation comes from. But if you are staying on property, those park reservations for those days will not count towards your AP allotment.

Hi so I purchased my annual pass and when you go to make a park reservation it does ask if your using your annual pass with a hotel reservation and it pulls up your reservations and you choose which resort reservation you are booking for. So you do actually get to pick if it’s associated with a resort stay so it doesn’t count toward your allotment. Just did this so figured I would let you know
