Annual pass help

Hello! We're pretty new to the whole Disney thing, so I have a question for all of the experts. My husband & I were just there a few weeks ago and at that time we upgraded to an annual pass. We had a trip for the week of Christmas planned with our boys so we had to do the Platinum one (no blackout dates).

I bought our sons 4 day regular tickets so we could make FP selections, but we would like to upgrade to annual passes come December because we are trying to do a big family vacay there next Sept/Oct. I know the gold pass (we are eligible because of DVC) has blackout dates, but would it be possible to wait until the last day and then upgrade to the gold pass for them? Assuming we were at the very last park that we planned to visit that day. If so, this would easily save us a few hundred dollars. Any insight you guys could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, you can do that.

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure that you can upgrade a ticket, if you've used all of the days on it. I thought you had to have at least one day left. If that's the case, maybe you could upgrade them to 5 day tickets when you first arrive. Then upgrade to APs when you just have the one day left.

As long as you do the upgrade by the close of business on the last day the ticket is valid (meaning the fourth park day in this instance), you're good. Just don't wait until the day after that. :)
