Annual Pass and Magicband questions

We plan to buy an annual pass when we get to WDW this next trip at a ticket window. My question is when we buy them do they give you a Magicband or just the card? If no band then when we link our annual pass to my disney experience will last trips magicbands register our annual passes and will be able to be used to enter the parks instead of using the card? I know we will need to show the cards for discounts but will it work to enter the parks and for our FP+?

No, they will not issue a MB when you pick up your AP, at least not right now.

Yes, you can link it in MDE to your existing MBs and use it as your ticket media and for FP+ entrances.

You will need to register it on MDE and they will send you a Passholders band along with the parking/discount card that you need to use. Until you get/do that the AP itself is valid for those perks.

You will also be able to order a 2nd set of Passholder magic bands when you get home, with the passholder slider on it, to use for future trips.

We are going at the end of this month. We bought 3 AP's about 3 weeks ago when we finalized our plans (we're going back in December). They were able to link our AP's to the Magic Bands which we got for our stay at Art of animation. So if you're staying on site, you should be able to get the bands, and have your AP's linked in.
I think you can also buy the MB's in the parks, then link it thru MDE. That's probably an option as well.

Why would you pay for bands?? You get them for free as Passholders.

You might have to pay for them if you do not have any from previous stays and you want them immediately, to use on the trip that you purchased the AP on.

Now that you can buy magic bands, I don't see why they don't start offering them on the spot for AP holders activating their cards for the first time.

Or even a voucher for picking yours out at the customization station in the park

To me that would be such a waste of money. But who am I to say that since we 'bought ours' last summer with a nights stay on site. LOL
