So how do they work for the first year? Are they pro-rated? We just sent our paperwork & deposit to DVC for BLT for a September UY. We were given the 2009 points up front. I remember choosing to be billed annually for the dues.

There should be no dues on the 2009 points.

Dues will be pro-rated for 2010 based on closing date. Your paperword should tell you on what date they will begin withdrawing the funds & for how much.

Thank you MinnieGirl33! Atlantic County, GSP Exit 36 here. What about you?

Actually it's based on the purchase date, not closing date. If you call today and put down a deposit, they pro-rate from today. You would be considered the owner of those points as of today and could make a reservation with them.

Absolutely right... thanks for the correction.

In fact, our most recent add-on was in the system & available for use within 90 minutes of giving out deposit :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

So we pay for 2010 points when we sign up? Or the free 2009 points? I'm confuses!!

When you do an add-on thru DVC direct, you maintain your same UY.

In our case, our UY is April. We completed our add-on in March 2010 which meant we were still in our April 2009 UY so we got April 2009 points. DVC makes an exception to the banking deadlines on new purchases so essentially, we received 2009 points on March 20th (for example) and 2010 points on April 1st.

For new purchases, this would need to be discussed with your guide & dependent upon what UY is selected/available.

Dues are paid on a calendar year basis and aren't related to your Use Year. Everybody's dues are due in January regardless of your UY.

If you purchase directly from Disney they pro-rate the first year's dues from the later of: your purchase date, the start of your initial Use Year and the occupancy date of the Unit you purchased.

Unless you purchase new construction, the occupancy date doesn't affect most people. Disney usually starts you out with a full set of current Use Year points so the start of the initial UY is usually in the past at the time of purchase and doesn't affect your first-year dues. (If they have run out of current UY points and you have to wait for your first set of points then it would be a factor.)

So that leaves the purchase date as the relevant date for most purchasers. Your annual dues are pro-rated based on the number of days left in the year starting from your purchase date.

If you want to relate annual dues to your annual points allocation, if you had an April UY and owed a full year's dues in Jan 2010, those dues cover 3/12 of your April 2009 UY points and 9/12 of your April 2010 UY points.

You will pay dues for 2010. Since we are already done with 2009, you won't owe any dues for that calendar year.

The day you put down the deposit will be the day they prorate your dues. For example, if you put it down March 15th, you would pay about 9 1/2 months worth of dues. So, say you owned 200 points at BLT. It is about $3.78/ppt for 2010 (I believe). For the year, that would be $756.00, but for 9 1/2 months, it would be about $568.00.

As PP said, UY has nothing to do with it. It is strictly based on the calendar year.

If you purchase now you get 2009 points and 2010's points? Is that correct?

If you purchase now, you get "current year" use points. If you are still in your 2009 use-year, you get 2009 points, then 2010 points on your use-yearaversity.

Or putting it more simply, if it is before your use year month, you get both sets of points. If it is after your use year month, you just get 2010.

If you purchase directly from Disney, they start you out with a full set of current Use Year points with your purchase. If your Use Year is Feb, Mar or Apr, you are currently in your 2010 UY so your first set of points would be 2010 points. If you have a June or later UY, you are currently in your 2009 UY so your first set of points would be 2009 points.

As both PP's said, you get 2009 and 2010 points depending on when your UY is. So I just bought AKV on Monday :cool1: with a June UY. Since We have '09 points right now that could be used by 5/31/10, but we will bank these points. Therefore, when 6/1/10 arrives I will have '09 points that were banked and current '10 points - all points will be good until 5/31/11 (unless I bank any '10 points...)
