I plan to call my guide about this but wanted to get some advice from the true experts beforehand....

While on the DVC member website, I looked in the annual dues section. I was dismayed to see that we had a statement that was due on Sept. 1st for annual dues. I thought that all dues were due Jan. 1st and late on Jan. 15th. Why a Sept. due date and the amount is not the total that would be due for our size contract?

We purchased at SSR in late May, December UY, and received 2006 points which we banked. Our guide was very specific that the dues were waived on the 2006 points, not prorated.

Why would be have something due on Sept. 1st??? Am I missing something or could this be a mistake?

So confused.....

I was a little confused by this at first also when we became members earlier this year. You are correct...you are not going to pay dues on your 2006 points. BUT you have to pay the dues on your 2007 points. They are prorated from the time of your closing for the remaining days of this calendar year. So for your 2008 points you will be billed in Jan. I hope this helps.:goodvibes

OK - so even though I have not received my 2007 points (Dec. UY) I would still pay prorated dues from closing to the end of Dec. on the 2007 dues? Then the bill that I get in Jan. will be for the points that will come on 2008. So.....technically you pay your dues one year in advance? (i.e. on Jan. 1st I pay dues for points that do not come to me until Dec. 08)

Am I close to understanding it correctly???

Thank you for helping!! :-)

Dues are on a CALENDAR year basis, which can be confusing, especially with a December use year. So, yes, I think you are understanding correctly.

So what they have posted on the website is correct as it is payment for the 2007 points for the portion of the year that we will have owned them? Even though we dont get 2007 points until Dec. of 2007?

I just had not expected a bill for dues until Jan. 1st so I want to make sure that I understand all of these details and I have to explain it all to DH so I want to have my facts straight!

Thanks again for taking the time to help!!

Forget use year. All dues are based on calendar year, regardless of use year. If you buy an add-on, dues are calculated from the date you purchase them to the end of the year.

Unless your add-on is at AKV. Then your dues start with day 1 of your UY. For example, if you added on at AKV with a DEC UY, you would only owe 1/12 MF for 2007. This is because AKV did not have 2006 UY.
