Annoying things you have overheard at Disney.

This thread has kind of moved off topic and onto silly things the Americans have said. I'm sure we have all made silly mistakes while just trying to be polite.

I'd like to add nice things you have overheard to the thread ( if that's OK) to balance things up a little.

We were in a queue at a restaurant and got the y'all from England line ( there's nothing wrong with that IMOA) and when we replied yes the guy just smiled from ear to ear and thanked us for coming, shaking our hands as we were seated. This was just after 9-11 so it was not totally over the top. You would never get that friendly a greeting in this country.

We were in another restaurant when a couple came in with triplets and received a round of applause with several women going over and congratulating them. This was so nice to see and I think it would be nice to add a few more positives to the thread. I for one prefer our American cousins to some ( not all) of are european neighbours.

I totally agree Tony! :thumbsup2

I agree too. It's lovely to be made to feel so welcome whenever we visit America. I personally love the fact that so many Americans are such conversationalists, and show such an interest in us and our country. I think something lacking in Britain at the moment is friendliness to visitors, pride in our country and enthusiasm for life (apart from us DISers of course!).

For me, the most annoying things heard at Disney are the parents (whatever nationality) who are screaming and yelling at their small, frazzled, exhausted children with the standard line 'You will enjoy yourself, I have spent a lot of money on this holiday'.

Sara. :)

We try to repay the welcome whenever we meet americans up here in the north east. DH often meets them on his delivery they are usually looking for the nearby villages or hotel or golf course. I too often get asked for directions for visitors from the USA trying to get their bearings and I'm always happy to help with a smile. Just this week DH got chatting to 2 Canadian pilots and a doctor he put them back in the right direction to where they wanted to be and they thanked him after asking how much walking he does (about 7 miles a day). I think they were pleasantly surprised but DH always makes folks feel good after they talk to him.

That takes all the fun out of it doesn't it? It is one of my pet peeves as well. On one of my last visits I overheard a father yelling "you are going to enjoy this vacation whether you like it or not!" at his DS who was crying.
Never heard anything so nonsensical.

Think it is safe to say that there are dumb people from every country! At least we can listen to them and laugh (maybe after cringing first of all!).

Most annoying thing I've ever heard, is "Sorry Sir, I am afraid the bar's closed":confused3 :confused3 - top that!!:lmao: :lmao:

I think you may have heard that in all the countries you've visited Matt.;)

Guys this thread has gone OT and we need to consider that some comments heard are because the other person is just being friendly and is trying to start a conversation with us.

Remember the DISBoards are full of people from all over the world and the UK Board's have posters that are not just from the UK (Australia, USA, Holland, France to name a few). There are lots of cultural difference's and we need to be tolerant of them.

Therefore the decision has been made to close this thread.
