The site has a promotion "buy one item from sale category, get another item of equal or lesser value for 50% off".
So..... if I buy 2 purses $60 each and 2 wallets $30 each, I think it should be one purse $60, 1 purse $30, 1 wallet $30, 1 wallet $15. That is not how they figure it. It is each purse $60, each wallet $15. Its not a big amount of money, but thats a rip! If you place 2 sep orders it would be figured the way I said... of course that shipping charge is large. Just annoys me! Contacted their customer service and they were no help

Any sale like that that I have seen the additional discount comes off the lower priced item. How about just ordering 2 purses and placing a separate order for 2 wallets?

Every store I have ever head of charges the full price for the more expensive item. Two orders let you check out the way you want to.

Yeah, most places that have these types of sales do the same thing. It isn't just Vera Bradley. If you are at the store, you can do 2 transactions. But online it might be a problem if you need a minimum amount to get free shipping. If you have to pay shipping twice, it probably negates the savings you get from splitting up the order.

I hate buy one get one 50%! Why not just give us 25% off and be done with it! And don't even get me started on the exorbitant shipping and "handling"!

That is how I have always seen it work. 1/2 off the cheapest items. The actual items bought has nothing to do with it.

Sales like that have the discount taken from the lower priced items. Sucks but that's usually how it is. Maybe you should have purchased the two purses in a separate transaction to get the purse at $30.

some sites do it the way it should be done... may be Kohls Gap or Old Navy. I know if you do it in person you can hand them item by item how you want the discount to be applied (if it is within the stated rules-equal or lesser value) but online you are at the mercy. And, yes, I agree just give me 25% off, darn it.

I also do not like VB Customer service! I spent a lot (in my world anyway!) on a tote - and it faded and the straps are coming apart.

oh well, so sad, too bad.

very annoying - I wouldnt expect them to replace it, but at least offer a percentage off a new product - and I dont get why they use fabrics that fade - they are meant to be used to travel with right? not kept out of the sunlight... :confused3

I much prefer Land's End and LLBean - great customer service, they stand behind their products!

Every time I shop in a store with that sale it always takes the half off of the second one that was scanned.. as long as it was lower that the first. I also match items up by 2's with the closest prices together.

OP I agree if should match up like you said... If you do 2 separate orders the shipping will kill the savings. I want to place an order for the XL Duffel with the sale but still undecided.

The part that annoyed me most about this "sale" is that the website prices went up as soon as the sale was announced. The items that I had been interested in all had price increases; even with the buy 1, get 1 half off deal, I would have been paying more for the same items than I would have been the previous day.

Agree with others- shipping charges through VB website are just outrageous!

However, a positive experience to note- as a result of the higher sale prices, we had a weekend trip to WDW and I visited the VB outlet Sunday. My DD liked a lunch bag, but we ended up not getting it. Went back on Monday- the print she liked was all gone, but one of the women working there felt so bad that my DD was sad that she gave her a mini-hipster for FREE! That certainly cheered her up!

Yep, most stores do the lowest items as the 50% off (or free if it's a BOGO). I've always split up my purchases when I encounter this.

As far as the items being cheaper a day before the sale. There are many stores that have back to back sales where the price goes up and down from one day to another. Kinda like airfare and car rentals. I've found that if I REALLY want it, I buy it and then wait for a price adjustment if the price drops again. (Of course that doesn't quite work with online shopping.)

unfortunately VB.com does not credit your account. They give you credit in the form of VB gift certificate for the diff.
