Announcing "The Incredibles"!

This never ending string of bad weather (cold, rainy, or both) is really stomping on my motivation. I'm not worrying too much about it since I'm not in official training mode right now, but I am trying to keep my fitness level up. I think I am going to run this afternoon when the sky brightens up. I did hill repeats the other day and they were tough, but I'm okay with that. Hopefully the more I do them, the easier they will be!

Congrats to new members who are starting to train for an upcoming Disney (or non Disney) race! It's an exciting feeling. Keep posting on these boards, and you'll be sure to get all the encouragement you could ever need.

On that note, I suppose I should get up and do my chores so I can go run later. :laundy:

Good morning team Incredibles! So excited to be at the airport waiting on our flight headed to DL! We should be there shortly after the park opens and will have a full day of Disney. Just hoping the rain holds off....but we've brought some disposable rain panchos. Won't be getting in any runs for the next few days but that's okay.... I'll be doing a lot of walking in the next few days.

Happy Easter to all of you!

.

Have a great vacation Patsy. Wish we were all going too.

I did W5D2 today, and feel so great that I jogged for 2/3 of a mile, twice, and I didn't feel too bad. Just a month ago, I couldn't imagine jogging more than a minute, and didn't make the full jog times the first day. I go back and forth in my thinking about doing a half marathon, and how will I ever be able to do it, but my stamina has increased so much, if I keep it up, I will be able to do a half. I actually went out this morning before work, in the drizzly rain, no less. It amazes me still that I am feeling this motivated to continue.
Plus, I did the 2/3 mile in 10 minutes, which would average 15 min/mile, so I wouldn't get swept in the disney princess!! :rotfl:

Thanks roomthreeseventeen for the C210K info. It looks like it's about an hour a day 3 days a week instead of half hour. I think once I finish this, that would be a good program to increase the length of my running times. I'm sure there's lots of training programs out there.

Hi everyone! Kinda a fly-by post for me today. I've been running errands all day and just got a chance to sit down in front of the computer and log all my info onto my BodyBugg (if you don't have one, I HIGHLY recommend it!) and thought I'd stop by here.

I didn't run yesterday. I should have but the kids were clingy and my hubby was just a big toddler about watching the kids. I am gonna run here in about an hour or so.

I spent a long time talking to my main squeeze about my desire to run a Disney half last night. He told me to go for it. Only thing, I'm not sure if it be the Half in January or the Princess Half in March. He's pushing me to do the one in March because that gives us more time to pay for our vacation (we want to stay at Poly again), put money aside, more time for me to train and possible better weather. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Do the Princess! It's so much fun! I'm sure the January half is just as fun, and I hope to do it myself at some point, but the Princess is awesome!

I posted this on the WISH board somewhere, but I figured I would put it here, as well. There's a site called Daily Mile which is like a workout-based social networking site. It's not as chaotic as Facebook, though. Here's my profile: http://www.dailymile.com/people/girlrunningham#ref=tophd feel free to add me as a friend if you're on there, or check it out and sign up for it if you're not. It's a really great way to keep yourself working out, considering everyone will see when you're not!

Hi Everyone! Just checking in...

:welcome: to our new members - Tasma, Jennz & Linda! Glad to have you on board.

Veronica - I'm sure taking your dog back was a very hard decision to make. Sometimes, it just doesn't work out...through no fault of your own.

For those in the NE, I hope none of you were affected too much by the flooding situation. Hopefully, you are drying out today and the rest of the week.

Jess - re: which half? I've never done the Princess so I can't really comment on that. However, I hear it's a good one to do. I can comment, though, on the WDW half. Of the two, I think this one is the bigger weekend event (with the marathon participants). The whole weekend is just exciting and since it's right after the holidays, the parks don't seem to be as crowded. Really, I don't think you can go wrong with either event. The princess medal is awesome! The Donald is pretty cool as well. Tough choice!

As for me, I got out today and did four miles. My legs felt like lead. It was a slow go. Ugh! I did three half-marathons in three straight weekends in March and I just got a little burned out. I haven't been running/walking as much as I should be doing. I hope to get out Friday and get four more miles in and then Saturday, if the weather cooperates, I plan to ride my bike for 30 miles. I've got a half-marathon at the end of April so I need to get out there and get moving as much as I can. Ugh! ;)

Yeah! You should go for it! I have not run the Princess - I long to, but that is a goal for next year? I did run the WDW half in January. The weather was terrible. I thought it was a freak thing, but in talking with some other participants I think the cold/rain/snow? is not as uncommon as we would think. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the half marathon. It was awesome.

That being said, I think it is a huge event (17,000 finishers?) and in conjunction with the marathon and the goofy, it can be overwhelming in the number of participants. It is also not targeted to women. So, my point is that I think the Princess may be a potentially better experience for 1) Women
who are traveling with 2) Families
who want better 3) Weather and
4) Smaller Event. You can always try the Princess in March and then run the full marathon the next January!!! Of course, I don't think you can go wrong with either! One other thought, the WDW half closed about this time last year. It was full in April unless you were running for charity. You would have more time to figure out your plans if you picked the Princess.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

As for the weather, that may be true. However, for the three years prior, the temps were on the hot side for the races in January. I really hate to say this as most might not agree - I preferred the cooler temps to the warmer temps. It could have been a bit warmer this year, though. ;) For the full this year, I felt great the whole time. Two years ago, I was exhausted at the end and I think a lot of it had to do with the heat. At least if you do the Princess, you probably won't get the extreme cold like we did this year or the extreme hot.

Another thing I just thought of - if you can swing it (and you have a good experience) - do the Princess this next year and then do the Donald the year after. 2012 will be the 15th anniversary of the Donald and there may be a special medal involved. I LOVE these special medals. :teeth:

Susie, I also had a very slow 4 miles today... I'm up to W4D4 in the C210k, doing walking with 2 minute sprints. It felt okay stamina wise, by my knees and calves were stiff, so I didn't want to risk hurting myself.

tassma - I heard rumors about how cold it was in January. BRRRR. Of course, early March wasn't a ton warmer.

Thanks for this link! I am finishing my C25K this week, so I was planning to start logging my runs from now on. This site looks great. I sent you a friend request. Here's my link for anyone else who is on Daily Mile.

P.S. I looked at your photography blog--your photos are amazing!

PlainJane: It's beyond me where I found the C210K, I was still pregnant when I found it! I printed off a copy and have been working off that. If you want, I can get it to you today or tomorrow. It progresses a lot like C25K.

Thank you so much for the offer, but it looks like Amy Lynn beat you to it.

I've never run either, so I can't really help there, but I did want to wish you luck on making the decision.

Amy: Thank you for the C210K plan.

Linda: Welcome to the Party party:.

Veronica: I'm sorry things didn't work out.

Well, I finished Week 1 Day 2 of C25K. Since things had gone so well Monday, I decided to up the speed. It was a healthy challenge, but totally doable. I'm really looking forward to Friday. It's so wonderful to look forward to exercise. I'm glad that I'm following a plan, or I would probably run myself into an over use injury.

A thought on the weather at this years Half Marathon:

It was cold and bitter. 24 degrees and sleeting in Florida is unreal. And I live in New York, where we have cold winters.

24,000 participants in the Donald this year. Many were slowed down by the weather. (self included). Would I have chosen Princess over Donald for my first Disney race? Don't think so, but it might be a consideration for someone else.

However, I am so nuts that my first marathon will be Mickey '13, for the 20th anniversary (can we say special bling!) The thought of having to run 26.2 in that type of weather scares me a bit, but it is just as likely to be warm as it was cold. Can't control the weather.

I will start a new April Incredible thread in the morning, with a new quote and a new question to ponder and discuss.

Veronica,
Last year at the full it was about 85 degrees by the end.I trained in 6 degrees and it was so hot.It can work both ways for us up north- body was not used to it.

Linda

Wow, I feel so behind after all the posts from yesterday. I was going to wait until after the April thread goes up, but I think I'll post a bit now. We spent so much of the afternoon outside with the kids that it must have really warn them out... it's 8:16 and they're still sleeping. So I'll take advantage of the quiet and post!

Nevermind, I spoke too soon. Little Krys is cooing in her crib. I WILL post when the April thread it up. Hehe...

Random question... does anyone ever have heel pain? The past three days, my heels and the back of my calves have been killing me when I walk (especially down stairs). I was able to run yesterday (slowly), but even massages (thanks, boyfriend) and warm baths haven't helped.
