Announcing Family name as you board

DH and I also have two different last names. His is easy; mine is hard. We go by first names for the announcement.

Will they say two different last names? I'm trying to figure out how they can say my son's last name (from another marriage) and my daughter's and our last name also.
Well, you could ask them to say "the Williams-Baker family". Or just use first names "Don, Mary, Sam and Sally" .

When we went on our Alaska cruise with DM & DSF, we had then say "the Hain and Mikkelsen families"

The lady with the microphone saw I had a "birthday" button on, and ad libbed. "welcome the jones family, with bob celebrating a birthday"

We cruised with my nieces, one of whom was carrying a much beloved stuffed bear named Bobo. Since we have a difficult name to pronounce, I told the greeter we were the Bobo family and that's what they announced. My niece walked proudly forward holding the dear bear. It was so much more memorable that hearing our actual name announced. I still smile when I think about it today. Perhaps Bobo is a real family name so they went with it?

On our first cruise, one of our serving team had a very cute surname (it was a common term of endearment that I would often use at home) so I wonder if they would have actually announced the name if it was given by a boarding family.

We always use our actual name, but have heard a few "Adams family" announcements and often wonder if they are genuine or not!

We've gone by first names, real last name, and when sailing with friends we have a made up last name that is a mash-up of our names that we use. Never had an issue with any of them. :)

Our last cruise we were on the ship early and went right to Guest Services for something. While we were standing there, we were listening to all the families get announced. Several of them gave names that didn't sound like they were real - they were very funny. (For the life of me, I can't remember what they were.) Anyone else do this as they board? We've always been boring and used our real last name. (Husband has said I'm not allowed to say we are the Seymour Butts family.)
I know a guy named Harry Butz...swear....he could show ID.

When you don't *have* a family name, it's not that enjoyable. We skip out entirely now and just decline it. There's no one there who cares we're onboard anyway, so why bother?

It's good to know you can decline. I've never been on a Disney cruise, but every time the subject comes up, I think about the fact that I would hate that part! And we have a fairly common, easy to pronounce, name - I just don't like being in the spotlight like that.

I think it's mildy corny, but it gets me in the spirit. So I appreciate their effort. :)

And so when we boarded in Miami and didn't use the regular entrance, it was somewhat off-putting when they did it. It's not nearly the same having your name announced in a hallway as the grand entrance normally used.

TBH, on our first cruise, I wouldn't have even noticed if I wasn't expecting it. We were at the tail end of concierge boarding and felt like we were swept on to the ship at a very high speed. I'm hoping we can pay a bit more attention to the process this time and enjoy. (Though I still don't know that the announcement will make a big difference to me.)

Basically I have always been asked, what to say, and never asked to show our cards or give evidence, I have known people to be called Princess or Prince, or magnet man. As long as it's not rude or a clear joke they seem to gave done it. On my last cruises they had it run on the big screen on the pool deck and some dressed up and gave funny names, we had a laugh.

Do you think they would announce "The Minnie Mouse Family" or "the three Minnies"

My daughter, granddaughter and I are Disney Bounding as 3 generations of Minnie Mouse.
Me in 1920s style travel skirt with black and white dots, drop-waist black blouse and a cloche hat with a daisy.
DD has a 1950s full circle red skirt with white dots, a red knit top and red and white bow.
DGD has a pink ruffled dress with white polkadots and matching bow.

The best answer at this point - maybe. It's really up to the CMs making the announcement. But, I believe technically, no, they would not.

Spotlight might be a big of a stretch - when you walk onboard you will see the few CMs who clap [Merrytime cruises have the CMs in Where's Waldo scarves] but (in my experience) no one else is paying much attention...

I understand that the a lot of people get a kick out of this. However, as you said, no one really pays any attention to it. It's just a handful of CM's acting like it's a big deal. When we left out of Copenhagen this summer, they did not do it as we entered on different level (1st floor I think??). I didn't miss it at all.

We were on the Fantasy last month, and they introduced us as the Skywalker family. The people in our party all had different last names so we didn't want a long introduction.

Last year, we said we were the Pine family from Gravity Falls and they announced it. Two weeks ago, my son told the CM we were the Skywalkers. The CM hesitated, then said, what is your real name. My son again said Skywalker, she announced us, loudly, as the Skywalkers. The crew erupted.
