I know this isn't DVC related and will probably be moved. Just wanted to share the sad news that Annette Funicello has passed away. For those of us old enough to remember the original Mickey Mouse Club on TV, this is very sad news.

CNN reports that she was 70 years old. That was also a bit of a shock -- can the original Mouseketeers really be in their 70s?

I am one of those who grew up with the Mickey Mouse Club. Annette was the world's favorite. The thing is that the image she portrayed on TV and movies of the beautiful, wholesome, talented, all-American girl was: exactly who she was. Saw every beach movie and consider Back to the Beach (1987) a great trip down nostalgia lane. Will never forget the line she issues in the movie when her daughter, who is upset and all stressed out over life, asks what she should do and Annette chortles, "Let's go shopping!" It was only a few years later that we learned she had multiple sclerosis. Annette, we will miss you.

I remember first watching Spin and Marty only because Annette was in it. Anything she was in, I wanted to see. For me too, she was a big influence on me during my preteens and even into my early teens. I was just devastated when she announced she had MS in 1992 (diagnosed in 1987) and because of her determination and attitude learned how people can learn to live with such hardship and still have a productive life.

There is a nice article about her passing and life in Variety. http://variety.com/2013/film/people...o-dies-at-70-1200334206/#1/annette-funicello/

I agree with the other posts, she will be missed.

Though I am too young(29yrs old) to have seen the original airing of Annette on the Mickey Mouse Club, I did watch all of her beach movies with Frankie Avalon! She is the definition of a classy/iconic woman! If young girls these days had a role model (celebrity) like her to look up to, this would be a whole different world:sad1: RIP

Very well said, I whole-heartedly agree. She will be missed and always remembered.

A sad day in deed. She will be missed. The next time I'm waiting to go see the Muppet Movie at HS, I will think of her when I look up and see the Net Full of Jello in the waiting room. She was my first Disney icon and watched the MMC faithfully, and spent every Saturday at the movies watching the Beach Movies. She was part of my childhood.

RIP Annette. I grew up watching her and also all her beach movies with Frankie Avalon.

It was sad to see that she was in an MS coma for the past few years. Annette was always so wonderful in everything she did.

She will be missed indeed. Class act all her life.

Another fan who never missed MMC. All were talented children but she was my favorite.

couldn't have said it any better....i'm sure at least one tear will come to my eyes seeing that net.
she was a class act - and something to aspire to.

Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me....too young to watch the originals by a couple of generations but enjoyed them in repeats nonetheless.

Forever hold our banner high, high, high. Come along and sing a song and join our family.....

Add me to the list of those so saddened by her passing, but grateful that she's free of her MS shackles. She certainly didn't deserve such a challenge.

Annette showed such class throughout her life and was such a wonderful ambassador for Walt Disney. I'm grateful to have followed her career and sorry the kids of today didn't get the chance to know her.
