Ann Coulter

It is the way Ann said it and WHAT she said. No one is cutting and pasting or paraphrasing her incorrectly, she said those vile and nasty things herself.

Here, in case you missed it, are some direct comments she herself made just on The Today Show.

"These self-obsessed women seem genuinely unaware that 9-11 was an attack on our nation and acted like as if the terrorist attack only happened to them. They believe the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony. Apparently, denouncing bush was part of the closure process.

These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefparrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s death so much.”

She goes on to say that their husbands were probably going to divorce them anyway. (in her book, she says this)

**found the quote**

"By the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy."
--------------------------------------------------------

That last comment puts Coulter in the category of people that I wouldn't even want to wipe my shoes on.. One cannot possibly get any lower than that.. Positively disgusting!!! :furious:

I was watching Bill O'Reilly the other night....NO I don't usually watch him!
I don't like the man....but, he was talking about Ann. I thought, okay, here it comes he will take her side.
He did not! I just about fell off my chair! He said she could have made her point without personally attacking these women that lost their husbands.
I could not believe he said that! He actually made sense! He said that her comments made her argument unbelievable (something like that).

I also saw a small bit she did on another show. They pressed her about her religion. She said, "You know I am a Christian."
Man, if she is a Christian, I want no part of it!!!

Coulter is basically a 'shock jock', a satarist. I don't pay any more attention to her than I do Franken, Springer, or anyone else on Air America.

However, when an elected official like Alan Hevesi said that he believed a fellow Democrat should be "putting a bullet between the president's eyes, if he could get away with it." I find that disgusting.

But then he made a very valid point, punctuated by his guest David Horowitz. David Horowitz pointed out that Ann Coulter is a political satarist. And, like all satarists, they push the envelope to make a point. O'Reilly's role is quite different from her role. She isn't a journalist. She isn't obligated to be "fair and balanced". She is expressing her opinion in the free market. So far it looks like she is incredibly successful. Unlike Al Franken and Bill Maher, she doesn't get a "pass". Bill O'Reilly also pointed out another striking difference. Al Franken lies. Ann Coulter doesn't. You either enjoy reading satire or you don't. Again, when one puts themselves out in public, whether its the Jersey Girls or Ann Coulter herself, they invite comment.

I agree with what O'Reilly and you have stated. I think Coulter could have gotten her point across without being nasty as she was. I'm no fan of the Jersey Girls but there was no call to make some of those comments that she made. It may sell some books in the short term but has damaged her in the long run. I never have bought any of her books and have no desire now. I'm not a person who goes to church nor do I subscribe to any religion in general, but I love that comment of yours that's bolded. I had no idea that Coulter thinks of herself as a Christian and I want no part of what she thinks a Christian is.

As I tried to point out in my previous posts that both sides engage in this awfull behavior but I was told my bias shows through. What a joke because to explain my postions on everything would take a hour or so. It's not cut and dry for me, like it is for others on this board. I'm glad that I don't drink the Kool Aid that both parties hand out to their supporters. I've been flamed on political boards of liberal and conservative websites. Like I said, what a joke. :sad2:

Political satire implies talent. Like Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondent's Dinner in April. Ann Coulter has to rely on shrill, repugnant NONSENSE to sell her books.

:rotfl: I think she failed that class! I find it amazing that some will apparantly defend her to the death, but then again, some still watch the 700 Club, so go figure. Wonder what it will take. Maybe if she committed cold blooded murder or something, but something tells me even that wouldn't be enough.

Coulter doesn't lie? Maybe you better look up lie in the dictionary. Even Barbara Walters said she doesn't do her homework and she doesn't know what she is talking about.

Just because you believe what you are saying, doesn't make it true.

I agree. And I'm not sure if these are the same four women my dh and I saw interviewed a good year or so ago, but there were four widows who left such a distatste in our mouths. I remember saying to dh, "ok, their husbands died - that's terrible. So did a lot of other peoples." I agree with some of Ms. Coulter's comments that there are some people out there who do believe they "own" the tragedy of 9/11.

I thought the Republicans 'owned' 9/11 after watching the Republican National Convention in NYC in 2004. Ann Coulter is right out of the Repugs playbook - Accuse other people of your own faults. Who is making money off the tragedy of 9/11 - Ann Coulter selling books by making these terrible accusations against others when she should be looking in the mirror.

See 911 Fest at the Republican Convention and count for yourself -

http://www.onlisareinsradar.com/archives/002177.php

It is obvious who is making $$ from this. Ann Coulter is selling the book. The 911 widows that she is attacking were instrumental in getting the only bipartisan investigation into how the tragedy of 9/11 happened. The 911 commission has been very critical of how very little attention this administration (with its focus on the banning gay marriage and ending the estate tax) has given to correcting the problems that allowed 9/11 to occur.

I'm disgusted that there are actually 5 pages dedicated to her and I'm sure there's lots more to come. :sad2:

But since we are talking about her, Imus said this morning that if it weren't for her "adams apple" she wouldn't have a shape :rotfl:

Sad...isn't it? :sad2:

But for real political satire, you should check out Stephen Colbert's performance at the White House Correspondent's Dinner. Hysterical. And Bush was sitting 10 ft. away from him and couldn't do anything. Talk about speaking truth to power and using satire to do it. Beautiful. My favorite quip:

But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!

Like all of your political posts, I fail to see the logic. Ann Coulter doesn't lie?

And, yes when someone puts themselves out there it invites themselves to comment. However, no one should be subjected to that BS that is spewing from Coulter's mouth...lies...hatred...crap...whatever you want to call it. If Al Franken was ever to say anything like this, he would not get a pass. Find me a quote where he said something as disgusting as this.

Just like my previous post said...these types of talking heads discredit their groups...her to conservatives...pat robertson to televangelists...michael moore to liberals. They're all so blantently over the top.

So who is laughing??????????????????????????

Ann Coulter is a wacko and one I choose to ignore.

I must ask about Bill Maher getting a pass. Didn't he lose his show because of some of his comments? I wouldn't consider that getting a pass.

First, I have to admit I CAN'T read all that has been posted here! Just too much! But at risk of being flamed let me speak my mind about Ann!

Besides not being hard to look at, she speaks her mind! That's her business! That's how she makes a living!

I won't defend her (unless she asks) but what I have read here is too harse IMHO. I appreciate someone calling a spade a spade! Even if they are wrong! Usually someone that straight forword will admit error if they believe they've made one or will stick to their guns if they think they are right.

Maybe that's just my personality but I'd rather have someone speak their mind even if I don't agree. It adds to OUR free speach! (A good thing, not a bad thing.) I this particular case I honestly don't know enough to speak conclusively but do lean to the right. :teeth:

I have too. Both sides have mentioned Kool-Aid. :)

I agree somewhat with Kirk above. Coulter is a smart woman who has used her brand of commentary to become a rich woman. I have her book "Treason." It's well researched, powerful, lavishly offensive, and very successful. She's not looking to be loved and does not use satire, that I can see. Satire is passive-aggressive and arguing with it is pointless. Coulter is aggressively...out there.

Thank you!!! Yeah, a satirist she is NOT!

I would hardly consider Barbara Walters the arbitor of truth. Again, Ann Coulter isn't a journalist, she is a satarist.

Mark Twain was a satirist. Ann Coulter is a bitter witch. There is nothing sarcastic or witty about her repartee. She's evil.
