Animation class at HS

My 6 year old loves drawing and takes art classes, do you think this may be something she would enjoy? I don't know anything about it, have never done it before. I saw it on a website and thought it may be fun for her. Also you do get to keep your drawing right?

Animation Academy is awesome and a your six year old will love it as long as they can stay sat for 20 minutes. You do get to keep your drawings. Bring along some cardboard tubes from the inside of paper towel rolls to keep your drawings protected after the class.

Our family does it multiple times. One year on a rainy day we just kept doing the class over and over about 8 times in a row.

It's a must do every year! She will love it. Our kids have done it the last for years in a row, some years multiple times. Our first visit they ranged from 3 to 8 in age and last year 6-11 and they love it every time.

It's an awesome keepsake, and if you return to Disney over the years, it's fun to see how their drawings improve.

Its one of our absolute favorites! It's so laid back, relaxing, cool with AC, and you get a keep sake. Everyone's characters really look like the characters, but they all are a tad different based on the 'animator' (you). No one ever believes my husband drew the picture of Tink! This last time, we got Stitch! Here's mine:

Way to go, Disney, for giving us 20 min of peace and a project with an awesome artist, a nice set up, something we get to take home, and its not on a FP!

I thought I'd add that the pencils don't have erasers. Sometimes that throws the younger children off and they get frustrated.

I enjoy the drawing class. it's the one reason why I still stop in DHS each trip.

It's one of the highlights of my family's trips to WDW and DL. It is rare that we wouldn't attend multiple times.

The only question is whether the best part for my wife and daughter is learning how to draw a character or to laugh at how bad my drawings usually are.

We love it!! All of us have improved since our first time but the kids have improved the most
Also they will give you a bag and a rubber band in the gift shop as you exit if you ask!

Agree with the others - we enjoy it too! I actually don't care for art or drawing, but we have fun here. I actually end up with a recognizable character at the end!

So the papers are small enough to fit in a paper towel roll, or do I need something bigger?

Papers are about 10.5 x 15 inches. Fit inside the tube I brought (which was from a waxed paper roll).

Nearly all of the characters start out with circles. If you have your child (or even adults) practice making light circles the size of an orange, a grapefruit, etc. And maybe even light lines. If they have the idea of "Lightly" sketching, they will grasp it very quickly!!

My daughter is a professional artist (mostly pencil and pen and ink drawings) and even she loves the animation class at Studios. We do it every trip.

Me ... I draw like a blind man, but such is life.

My husband and I enjoy the Animation Academy and were excited to take our grandchildren. (We took them on individual trips GD 4, GS 5. Their together trip ages were GD 8, GS7) They both had a good time in the "class" and asked for minimal assistance.

The character is chosen by show of hands.

FYI - word is getting out and lines are becoming longer!

Various artists will have different ways to choose what is drawn. Last trip toward the end of the day the artist said she didn't want to do anything that had already been done that day, so she had a few to choose from and someone in the front was very vocal and got to choose. The next time (later the same day) the artist was asking who had done various characters before and there were some people who had drawn A LOT of them, which was tough for us newer people! He finally hit one that they hadn't done before. There wasn't really a vote either time.

I'm taking my daughters this winter. Can't wait - it's one of the things I'm most excited about!
