I have never done this before, but we will have someone in our group next week that should really enjoy it.

I was trying to figure out what time classes would start on 5/14 with EMH at 8:00 am that day.

Thanks!

Lisa

I would think about 10 - but not certain. We usually doing the drawing class later in the afternoon as it has AC in the class and waiting area :thumbsup2

It depends on whether they have artists available but they tend to start after the park opens for regular hours and when they have artists to run the classes, they do them during the evening EMH too. Last trip they started them at 10 am, but it was September so it may have been different because of the off season (it was very quiet). We usually save them for later in the day. It's DDs favorite and we do it multiple times for her.

There is also one in Disney Quest, but you have to pay for your drawing if you want it printed whereas the DHS one is on good ol' paper with a pencil and you sign it and take it with you. Lots of fun. Run a search on youtube to get an idea. Occasionally you end up with a class clown in the group and that's always good fun!

Thank you everyone!

We slated the day for AK with FP+ in the early afternoon for the Safari and late afternoon reservations for RFC.

DS 2 and I are taking our neighbor with us (like family). She is an artist-she painted his nursery mural when he was born.

At first she did not want to do DHS then she heard about the Animation Courtyard area and asked. I wasn't really familiar with the drawing class but looked it up for her and she seemed like she really wanted to see it.

Since we are at BWV this trip I thought we might be able to fit it in in the morning. I figured while she was doing this DS and I could look around the area for any characters out at the time or try and get the Disney Junior Show in.

Thank you for all the tips :)

They set out a list of the characters they are going to draw and at what time. You might want to check that out inside. You all could enjoy it if you find a good character!

Thanks we will look at that! My son is 2 though. I don't want him to disturb the class. I'm not sure what the atmosphere is in there.

Atmosphere is quiet. The instructor sits in the front and draws on an overhead projector. Talks into a headset so it is easy to hear him/her.

Probably ~50 students, each at their own desk.

It might test the patience of a 2 y/o, as the activity is minimal. However, there is a LOT that a 2 y/o would enjoy just outside of the classroom. Lots of simple games. A few characters to see. I think there are cartoons in the area. You would not be bored if you decide to wait for the class to end, just outside the doors.

What kidd_freeper said, it'll be difficult to participate in the drawing portion of it while holding a 2 year old so hopefully you have some help. Also, I would sit towards the back, I think I remember there being an area where you can just sit there without the big drawing board/table area in front of you that might be good to do with small kids.

If you want to draw there, they can give you a "portable" board so you can be more comfortable with the little one and not be doing a balancing act while drawing(the drawing chairs are kind of high)

Thanks for the info. It's more for dear neighbor. DS and I will sit out and look around. He likes the Disney Junior stage show as well.

What kind of wait is there for this? Do you sign up ahead of time? This sounds really neat. Thanks.

It's done at the end of the Magic of Disney Animation tour, although I believe you can skip that part and go right to Animation Academy. It runs all day so it's just a matter of timing with regards to the wait.

Go into the Art of Animation building and stay to the right. Once inside, Animation Academy is a sharp right before you go down the stairs. There's a small sitting area you can wait in for the next class to start and there's always a CM standing there. If enough people are waiting and the next class will be full, the CM will let you know. Not sure exactly what time they start but I believe it is 10:00 ( I know they definitely start by 10, just not sure if it's earlier) and a new class starts just about every half hour. Every time we've done it we've been told that no character will be drawn more than once a day, so you can do the class as many times a day as you want and it'll always be a different character. We LOVE this; enjoy!

Our family loves doing this and we laugh uncontrollably because we are terrible artists. Last time we did it my 13 year old was so out of control she had the whole class laughing and finally the artist came over and put her drawing up on the big screen for everyone to see. Everybody died of laughter.

One year it was a rainy day and we did the show about 8 times in a row.

Last time we were there in February the artist gave us 3 selections to vote on for which character we would draw. I have never seen a list of characters what are going to be drawn.

Another time the artist said whoever guessed the character first would get her drawing. Literally she drew a circle and I yelled out, Jimminy Cricket, and I was right.

This is a great class and I have done it multiple times when I lived in Orlando. Some of the characters I have drawn - Pluto, Chip (or Dale), the frog prince from "Princess and the Frog", the Genie from Aladdin, Donald - so they don't always choose the "fab five". Also there is a nice gift shop when you leave the area that has "how to draw" books for kids and real Disney art work.

Enjoy!:)

Those how to draw books aren't just for kids. I'm totally inartistic and have used those books to make some nice drawings.

My DH does this. We like to frame the pics for our disney room.
We have plans to tis again this year, he will do the class while we meet some characters.

We're looking forward to doing this on our upcoming trip. Never have before.
We have our paper towel tubes all ready to go to roll up our drawings after, so they don't get mangled in our bags ;)

How late do they hold classes? We'll be there on July 4th so the park is open until midnight (not EMH).
Thanks!!
