Animation Academy drawing class

We just did this on May 1 and it was fun. We did it in the afternoon and the waiting area filled up so that class was full. We probably sat in the waiting area I think for 15-20 min before our class started. It does seem very popular. The instructor had about 5 characters for us to pick from and we 'voted' on sorcerer Mickey even though I guess it had been drawn earlier in the day, but it was the 25th anniversary so maybe that's why he got to be done twice.

You don't have to do the show or anything before hand, you can just walk right to it.

The CM in the waiting did ask all parties stay in the waiting area so he could keep track of how many as some families had people wondering around the rest of the animation place.

In WDW they do not post a list of who will be drawn that only happens at Disneyland

They do have a little clipboard of who has *already* been drawn tho. They try not to do doubles, but we saw Olaf on the list twice last Saturday after only a dozen or so classes ;)

That doesn't surprise me lol, they must get Olaf requests quite often these days!

Do they give you a tube to put these in so you don't have to worry about damaging them all day? Will security say anything about bringing in a tube?

We're looking forward to doing this on our upcoming trip. Never have before.
We have our paper towel tubes all ready to go to roll up our drawings after, so they don't get mangled in our bags ;)

How late do they hold classes? We'll be there on July 4th so the park is open until midnight (not EMH).
Thanks!!

What a great idea about the tubes. We went a bought a poster, just for the tube to bring back our artwork. :rotfl2:

The art sheet fits PERFECTLY in a paper towel tube if you roll. You can get several in one if your roll nice & thin. We only use a tube if we get to keep the artist drawing, otherwise I keep a sturdy folder in the internal laptop sleeve of my backpack - if we take home only our own drawings, we just fold the sides of our drawing in so they fit in the folder (never fold across the drawn part tho) and that works well too

They do not give you a tube, but if you stop in the gift shop on your way out of the class, they will give you a rubberband and a bag to put it in.

One thing we found that was great for carrying our drawings is the tube that the glow in the dark necklaces come from at the dollar store.

This is a must do for us on every trip. Ryan is one of our favorite animators because he gives very descriptive instructions on how to draw the shape.

The classes usually start at or around park opening and there is one every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour at WDW.

LOVE the animation academy! Even DH and DS enjoyed it, even though we drew Tinkerbell!:goodvibes

We LOVE these sessions and always rank them as a trip highlight! Wouldn't dream of missing them. In fact, we have started taking a cardboard tube, like a mailing tube, with us so that we can roll up our drawings and keep them crush-proof for the remainder of our trip. We display some of them at home that we rotate throughout the year. One year on our summer vacation we drew Phineas and Ferb and my husband wrote on his drawing "Summer Vacation 2012" which went along perfectly with the P&F theme. Such a FUN, free souvenir!!:thumbsup2
