does AK do anything special to start the day?

I haven't been for a couple of years so this might not be current ... but at rope drop in the past, after entering the park and walking up the slight hill and across the bridge to the island with the Tree of Life, there was a rope barrier and they held us up for a few minutes. A land rover or jeep pulls up with Mickey riding on it and there's a little show where he welcomes everyone to the park. I never enjoyed it because you're jammed into a fairly small walkway with hundreds and hundreds of people, and all them just want to get on the rides, already!

they got rid of that opening show in 2012 i believe. they just let guests into the park like 10-15 minutes prior to its actual opening. cant go past the oasis area before its actual opening time tho

We were there for AM EMH in April, and there wasn't a RD show. About 5 minutes before 8:00, they let us in the park. They didn't stop us at the Oasis.

The only park that does an opening show now is MK. All the others have some morning announcement, and let you go.

DHS seem to open ~15 minutes before published time. Which I don't think counts as an opening show. The running of the strollers

I had also read somewhere the AK parking lot often doesn't open until right before opening. Is this true? We are driving and planning MEMH for 7 a.m. opening. If the parking lot doesn't open til 6:45, this might be a problem.

It can be a problem, there, on (at lease) some days, yes.
