Animal Kingdom: Not to be overlooked (First Timers - read!)

I love AK ! I will never understand why people choose to skip this park. We went to AK twice during our trip in Jan and never made it past the safari and Panguani trail. My kids & I absolutely love watching the gorillas on the trail. They are so interesting! I think I took 6 rolls of film on the gorillas and the safari alone. I hope to get to the Lion King show and to do dinosoar on our Nov trip. We saw the Lion King back in dec of 2000 and it was fabulous!

You can add my family to the AK lovers list. AK is a must on all our trips. We skip MGM a lot more than AK (even though we love RnR). The park is so beautiful we sometimes go just to do the safari ride and to walk around enjoying this beautiful park. This past trip we went for just a couple of hours and did the safari ride and Kali River Rapids (2x) before we left, but there was no way we were skipping it.

Hi Monty,

I went to AK 2 times in January.

It was cold, but it was sunny :sunny: and abround midday we went to Kali. Before that, we changed our pants for shorts, and we took our tennis and put flip-flops ! :paw:

are there lockers near by or did you have to take you stuff with you and if so how did you keep it dry? we skipped this due to cold Jan. weather but with a change of clothes i'd brave it !:teeth:

member.php?u=82239hugsquared, you beat me to it.
AK bores me to no end.
:bored:

I saw AK once and that was enough for me.
Unfortunately my family likes it so I'm a tagalong.
LOL

I don't know what it is.
To me it's just a zoo with a lot of extras.
The Tree of Life was amazing, once.
DinoLand is pretty cool tough.
I really like the Dinosaur ride.
Tarzan Rocks and the Lion King......YAWN.
Bored me the first time and it gets worse with repeats.
The positive Safari comments surprise me.
It's just a little better than the fake "Jungle Cruise" in Adventure Land, imho.
Everest might "save" this Park, in my eyes.

BUT this thread was for 1st timers.
I did enjoy the Park the first time and if you have the time I'd check it out.
But if you're only there for 3 days I'd pass.

Hi Jann1033 :paw:

I think you'd like it , if it's a sunny day ! :sunny:

We put our shoes inside a plastic bag under our stroller and take my backpack (not a big one) with me, under my poncho.

Some people put their things in the compartment in the middle of the boat, that is covered with plastic (but sometimes it's a little wet ).

I have never seen lockers near attractions, as there is in USF / IOA / SW, but I can't assure you , maybe someone else can ... :goodvibes

We like AK too- I still consider it a one day park, but I enjoy it very much.

I recommend you see FOTLK at the FIRST show and the the safari second. There's no line to speak of, and if you get there just 5-10 minutes before the show, you get to sit up front. Our son was chosen last week to lead the "lion" section in how to roar like a lion. Magical Moment! :cool1:

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned that I enjoy at AK is the Pocohontas Animal Training show. There's one show a day that's specifically for training animals, it's usually marked as such. I think right now it's around 12:55. I was fortunate enough to see it on a day that the animal training was done twice. and I went to both shows. It's really interesting!
