Planning my first deluxe resort stay ever and wanted some opinions. I am planning a split stay at animal kingdom lodge and the polynesian. Should I spend the first half of my stay at animal kingdom or the poly? Also I will be staying safari view, what are the best rooms/sections to request? Same for the poly, standard room what are the best rooms/ sections to request. Thanks!

Sorry just realized I posted this in the wrong section, could admin please relocate it. Thanks

Well, I just want to say that I think you are plain genius to split your stay between the two resorts. They are my favorite. I've stayed AKL before but I have not done Poly which we're planning to do in 2013.

When we stayed at AKL I asked for a specific area and when I checked in I didn't get it. I was going to ask for something else but decided that I would just go with it. As we went to the room I became more and more concerned because they put us on Ostrich Trail which everyone had been saying was terrible. But like I said, I went with it. Well, we got there and the room was great and I immediately threw back the curtains and looked outside to find giraffe, ostrich, zebra and cattle. I was like, "jackpot!" And the reason they were all there was because just outside our room was a watering hole and a cluster of trees. We saw so many animals that trip that my daughter actually became bored with them. When we visited the pool we made friends with another couple with kiddos and they were staying conceirge and complained they never seemed to see animals. I felt so blessed. Plus, the room was close to the restaurants, gift shops, pool, everything!

So, I guess what I'm saying is that sometimes it's better to go with the flow. You may receive far beyond any expectation if you just let it come to you. Kind of hippy dippy but it's worked for us and that's been our approach every stay since. I pay for the class of room I want and then let the rest fall as it may and it's been awesome every single time.

I don't know about room requests, but I would suggest doing AKL first, then Poly. Once you get used to the monorail, you might not like having to bus to every park, as wonderful as AKL is.

If it were me, I'd stay at AKL first and then move to the Poly. AKL is a great resort, but we love the Poly and being on the monorail. Transportation at AKL is fine, but the monorail is great for getting to MK as well as to the CR and GF for shopping, dining, or just visiting. I can't really help on room requests for AKL, but when we stayed at the Poly we were in Samoa and loved it. Samoa is in a very convenient location as it's just steps from the GCH, volcano pool, quiet pool, beach, and Captain Cooks.

This is true the monorail will spoil you :rotfl: I know if you I were at the Poly I would visit the MK and Epcot because the transportation is fast and easy from there. If I were at AKL I would go to the Animal Kingdom park because it is close and they say it is about a 20 or 30 minute ride to the MK from AKL. If I were you I would stay at AKL first.

I'm also thinking of staying at the Poly. Did you request Samoa ? I know it is one of the most requested long houses. Last year we were in Tokelau and it is a great central location, we really liked it.

I'd stay AKL first too then move to the Poly :) Both great resorts

Yes, I requested Samoa. We loved it because it was convenient to everything and we especially liked being so close to the volcano pool :goodvibes.

Thanks for all the replies! I was thinking AKL first as well so its nice to see alot of ppl have that same opinion and make my decision easier. Thanks for the advice on requesting Samoa (sp?) at the Poly =)

I'm doing a split stay at AKL and BWI, so it was great to get some pointers from this thread:cool1:

That's what I was thinking of requesting but was afraid that it would be full since a lot of people request it. We also want to be close to the volcano pool ! If we can get a discount that is where we will be staying. The way it is looking though I dont think they will put out a discount for our week. :sad2:

Have a great trip.....AKL and Poly are both great resorts :goodvibes. If you do make a longhouse request and it's not what you've been assigned, ask if it's possible to get it as sometimes requests can be overlooked. Or the longhouse you want might not be available until later in the day and if you're willing to wait, they might be able to accommodate you ;).

Have a great trip. We've never stayed at BWI so I can't comment on that resort, but AKL is a great place to stay and it's great being able to see animals roaming around :).

The year we stayed there was the end of September during free dining and I made 3 requests (Samao, 1st floor, volcano pool side, in that order). We didn't check in until around 1:30 A.M. and the first 2 requests were granted with the 3rd one being fulfilled if we wanted to change rooms the next day. We decided to stay put as it was very late and I just wanted to get settled and not have to worry about moving, but I thought it was great of the CM to offer that to accommodate our last request. If you want Samoa, I would put that as the first request and then put "close to volcano pool" for a 2nd request so if Samoa isn't available, you might get the next closest one ;).
