Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) Direct Sales Incentive

Its always advantageous to buy later in a calendar year but before the start of your new UY….

Once we hit June 1st….the 2022 points go away because we start the 2023 UY for June…come August 1st, same thing…
Will they make an exception for a new contract and allow you to bank 2022 points into 2023 if it's past the banking window? I'm pretty sure that's what I've seen on here but wanted to be certain :P

When you are an owner, you have to get the same UY if you want to add on less than the minimum.

If you want a new UY, then you have to buy 100 points or more because that is a new membership. They will always try to get you to get what you have but if you tell them you have a reason to do it.

We do own three, but we did it on purpose as we use our points for different trip.

Be sure you understand how it works to have multiple memberships.
Thank you, @Sandisw — if I want to add on VDH or Poly2 at 50 points, can I choose between my Jun VGF (resale) or Aug AUL (direct) UYs, both of which are more than 100pts? I assume that a different resort is always going to be a different membership, right?

No, if the contract has the same UY and has the same owners as one of your other ones it will be under the same membership. If you own both use years already, DVC will give you the option to pick which membership/UY you'd like to add the new contract to.

Just for example's sake:

Right now, I have 2 memberships but I have 3 contracts. My Aulani contract and Animal Kingdom contract are both under the same membership because they have the same owners and same UY.

My other membership has my Riviera contract by itself because it's a different UY from the other 2 even though it has the same owners.

Yeah, we unfortunately had to sell a very recently purchased 100pt AKL resale contract to help soften the blow of the 200pt direct purchase. The AKL points had been in our account for barely a week! 😛 Oh well, we ended up selling it for more than we purchased so after commission it ended up being a wash.
First time purchasing direct and man they don't lie, it's such a walk in the park compared to resale. The points were in our account later that afternoon!
What was the closing cost amount for the 200 pt direct purchase? Thanks!

Yes but you have to do it quickly. We bought a new use year (Aug) a couple weeks ago. We already had a Feb use year. We were past the banking deadline. Our guide said we needed to bank within the 10 day right of rescission period. We booked a trip with most of the points and I was able to chat with member services and they banked the remaining few (5) points last week. (Within the 10 days.)

This AKL deal seems pretty good. I know nobody really knows what incentives could be coming after the current incentives end, but just looking for opinions based on their experiences with direct incentives if this AKL incentive is a good one to jump on, or wait for a better one.

I’d probably prefer VGF over AKL, but to me the current VGF incentive isn’t anything special.

With AKV being a sold out resort, I would not expect another round of incentives.....so, I would go for it if it is something you are interested in.

What’s your opinion on the VGF current offer? Is that a standard offer or are there better ones they offer sometimes?

Thanks

It’s pretty standard. I wouldn’t expect significantly larger incentives in the near future. They may happen, but DVC has been pretty disciplined the last few incentive cycles. I’m not sure it’s helping them to be so disciplined, but they seem to be ok with it.

They have had significantly better incentives during things like pandemics and global financial crises.

What i figured. I would agree that they should offer better incentives with direct sales underperforming right now. Personally, i'd rather slightly discount the memberships to get more people on property where they spend money. Not only are you sitting on points and taking a long time to sell out these resorts, you have to look at it as lost revenue on people not spending money on property.

Thing is though, they turn the empty rooms to cash sales and therefore probably get more money from those splurge guests than from DVC guests

I currently have an April use year (resale). So there is no way for me to get 2022 points on this deal while keeping my current use year, is that correct? It would be so tempting to buy this direct with that additional incentive.

Because 4/1/23 has already passed that would be correct, you wouldn't be able to obtain 2022 UY points.

Thanks, I was afraid that was the case. I waited to see what the VDH deal was and it cost me getting a deal here. Wish I had just gone ahead and done this in March.

As long as they can fill them that is true.

They definitely have no problem filling the rooms at RIV for cash.

All rooms at BPK at VGF were declared into the association so all DVC bookings. But my guess is that the cost of that conversion was not substantial..and, they don’t pay the operational dues on the points declared but not sold..so, those carrying costs are low.

I wish the New Owner offer was closer in price to the add-on, I’d be tempted to buy this direct. I’m not an owner, but literally JUST put in my first offer for AKL resale.

I tried very hard to resist, but I couldn't do it. I sprung for 200 points at AKL with the 2022 point sell back to put total at $143 PP. Officially a "blue card" holder...woot! If by chance, the incentives for VDH are phenomenal I guess I either have tremendous buyer's remorse, back out within the 10 day window or hide the fact that I bought both from my husband! 🤣

I laughed out loud at option 3. I would bet good money that the incentives for VDH are nowhere near $150pp, but I like how you're thinking.

I was happy to get Aulani down to about $170pp with some stacked incentives in January, but AKL at $143pp is a much much better deal, thank goodness the flash sale is ending because I'm now tempted to jump on it as well, and I already have the blue card.
