Does Animal Kingdom stay open 3 hours later on an EMH night? Has anyone here been to an EMH @ AK? I am a little curious about crowds and if animals are out and about at that time.

Last week we were at AK for EMH and the park closed at 6pm for all but resort guests, and stayed open till 9pm for us. The last safari left at 7:30 and the ride was really great because with low crowds the cms took the safari ride very slow and we got to see a lot more in about double the time of the regular day rides. And yes, the animals were out. The cms said that AK is the slowest on EMH nights of all the parks and it really was nice. :flower:

Of all the parks, AK's evening EMH was the best and the least crowded when we were there May 17th. Walked onto everything that we wanted to do. Safari was open but not for the entire time.

I was there May 17 as well and it was not crowded at all. Safari was open at 6:30 PM since we rode it then. Got to see plenty of animals, too. I believe the other trails and stuff were open, too. I think they close them down at 7 (when we were there EMh was until 8 so maybe it's hour before EMH closing?).

Are the shows (Lion King/Tarzan/Pocohontas) showing later during EMH too??

We may show up at 4pm and see the parade(never seen it in 4 visits) and then stay until around 8pm.

I know that Tarzan Rocks was open since we saw that during the EMH. You'd have to check the schedule but I also believe that Lion King was also available. Don't think Pochontas was, but the best thing would be to check some of the web sites that list what attractions/show are available during EMH's. Have a great trip.

I don't think there is a Pocohontas show. I just remember Lion king, tarzan, and flights of wonder.

Lion King and tarzan had one showing each during EMH. I think they each were separated by 30-40 minutes to allow people to see both.

When we were there we were there from 9AM-6:30PM and never got to really walk around the Oasis(or whatever it's called that's towards where the Tree of life and you can see birds/small animals). Well, then again we had to leave early for dinner. And from 9-5 the park was sooooo crowded! In 1.5 hours we only got Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, and the Safari done. If I were you I would come around 2 or 3 (yes more crowded) but at least do Tough to be a Bug, one of the shows (tarzen or Lion King), then watch the parade so you don't have to rush as much during EMH time. It's not crowded, but the park is big and takes time to walk places, plus the safari ride itself is about 15 minutes. If we didn't have dinner PS we would have stayd until 8. It's a beautiful park and w could easily spend 2 days there.

I think that sounds like a great idea. I just hope that the crowds after the parade really thin out!! We really need to see both Tarzan and Lion King. I hope we can fit it all in!!!

Anyone else do AK EMH at night???

Unless it has closed recently there is a show with Pocohantas at AK. It features Pocohantas and a variety of forest animals. I remember a raccoon and a skunk. It is located in Camp Minnie Mickey and is generally geared toward younger children. I think it's called Pocohantas and her Forest Friends or something like that.

Oh I saw that on the map. I thought that was just a character greeting. Maybe it is a show.

If you have anyone in your party who is an animal lover (actually, isn't everyone?), try to get to one of the animal training performances of Pocohontas. You won't see much of the Pocohontas show, but it's really interesting to watch them do what they do to get the animals to "perform", and there's a nice CM who explains it all to you. The day I was there there were 2 animal training shows and I went to both of them, because different animals were involved each time. The afternoon show is often animals who've not quite gotten things totally right during morning Pocohontas shows.

The original question dealt with Evening EMH. Yes there still is the Pocohontas show during regular hours, however, I DO NOT believe that the show is offered during Evening EMH. Again, you should with the EMH schedules while you are there, because as with anything at WDW, that could change.

We are down here now and we went to the evening magic hours at Animal Kingdom on Tuesday. The turnout was so high that they did not have enough wristbands and were making people wait while someone was getting them. The people in the front of the line had been waiting almost 30 minutes. When we got there, we realized that waiting for the wrist band would make us miss the only showing of the Festival of the Lion King at 7:30, so I did some major complaining and the girl just told us to go straight to the show. Got to the show late and then had to run to get to the one showing of Tarzan Rocks at 8:15. The last safari was at 7:30. Over all I was not impressed with it. I wish they had had a least two extra shows. Both shows were pretty packed.

We arrived an hour after EMH evening hours started at AKL. It was great seeing this park at night -- so many details you don't notice during the day. However, there was very little to do. All of the shows and some of the rides offered during EMH had ALREADY stopped. There were quite a few characters out for meet-and-greets, but I found the lines for this longer than during AKL during the day. There was only a 15 min. wait for Kali, so the kids enjoyed this. My 2.5 yo dd and I did NOT enjoy the mosquitoes while waiting for everyone. Also, my 12 yo ds was really thirsty; and we had a difficult time finding a place that was open to buy a drink. If I had the time, I would do evening hours at AKL again; but, on a short trip, I wouldn't bother.

The past two posts are just the thing I was looking for. I had a feeling that they might only have one show of Lion King and one show of Tarzan. So everyone staying for EMH has to see those shows. Sounds pretty crowded to me even during value season. Also everyone must just file from one theater to the other since they are only 15min apart.

I have also heard some other reports about mosquitos at night!!! I would hate to travel all the way from Minnesota to AK to get bit by our State Bird :teeth:
