I was looking into going on the backstage safari, thinking that it would be interesting, as i'm a veterinary technician student, but then i saw some of the pictures and it was people looking at food and plants. Has anyone been on it? is it worth the money? I'm mainly interested in the animal care aspects not so much what they eat. What is acactly on the tour? Do you see any of the animals up close?

thanks alot

I did the Backstage Safari in April 2000 and LOVED IT. I certainly think it was well worth the money. I think it's changed a little bit since I went on it, but some of the main highlights from my tour were:
  • Close up encounter with two giraffes
  • Close up encounter with two different birds
  • Tour of the elephant barn
  • Food preparation overview
  • Animal husbandry overview
  • Meeting several animal trainers with lots of time for Q&A
I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of things, but it was definitely a highlight of that trip. There are 6 tour reviews over on the AllEarsNet Tours page if you want to get more info. I heartily give it two thumbs up!!!
