Finally got over to AK for a few hours of photography after dark with the new tripod. All pictures taken with D300 + Sigma 30mm f1.4. Aperature Priority at f11, ISO 200.

Nice, is the tripod more stable that your previous ones or something?

Wow I hadn't seen that till I posted. Amazing reflection in the water and very strange lighting seen at night with a long exposure!

Is it 30 seconds?

Thanks- I have been very happy with the tripod- my only other one is a very light travel style and I have not had good luck with using it for long exposures. That picture had a 30 Second Exposure yes- all EXIF info (and a few other shots) can bee seen HERE.

I took two of the tree in the same setting- the one posted has a clear reflection- the other is blurry. All settings were the same- all I can guess is the breeze picked up for the other one.

All very nice shots, Jeff; #1 is my favorite, but hard to pick just one!

Great shots Jeff! I can't wait to be able to take some nice night shots with the 30mm! I like this one the best just because it is cool that you can see the blur of the train that went up the mountain and all the reflections/stars. All the others are awesome too! You guys who can just run to the World whenever you want are really making me jealous!

Just curious, what made you choose ISO 200 over 100 (or less if the D300 allows that)?

I don't think I've ever seen photos of AK at night. They are breathtaking!

Great looking shots Jeff. I believe my favorite would be #5. I also have the 486RC2 ballhead and really enjoy it. Thanks for posting these!

Outstanding shots Jeff! I'm going to have to look at that tripod to relace the shimmy-shake my light one gives me way too often.

Thanks Andy-

I used ISO 200 I guess because it is listed as the D300's lowest ISO- it has a Low (-1) setting which is the equivelent of ISO 100 similar to the High (+1) being equivelent to ISO 6400. Not sure why they label the high/low like that- I guess I figure since the 6400 is really pushing the range maybe it is on the low end somehow as well. :confused3

I like the train blur also- I took this one and got the train blur and the on-ride picture strobe as well but someone walked in front of the camera during the exposure with a kid on their shoulders with a light up toy.

Thanks Bill- I have been quite enjoying mine. The lightweight one just did not cut it.
