The Little House on the Prairie has been rebuilt according to Laura's description on the original site. The found some rocks that had been part of the original cabin. You can also see the well that Pa dug and a period school and post office that have been moved there. If you stand in front of the cabin, you can look across the street to a field that goes clear to the river. It looks a lot like it did when they lived there, I suppose.
If Allen ever gets my scanner working, I could scan some pictures for Leah, if she'd like.
The only homes still standing in their original form are the house that Pa built in DeSmet, Mary and Almanzo's farmhouse and the rock house in Mansfield (she helped him build the farmhouse), and the Burr Oak Hotel (she doesn't write about living there in her books). The dugout is gone, but you can visit the indentation in the bank of plum creek where it once stood. The wonderful house is gone - I'm not even sure they know exactly where it once stood, but it was near Plum Creek. The Little House in the Big Woods has been rebuilt, but the woods are gone. You can visit the site of Pa's claim in DeSmet and also Laura's claim, but there are no houses standing.
