Angels & their wonderful men...a new thread for a new year!!!

The Little House on the Prairie has been rebuilt according to Laura's description on the original site. The found some rocks that had been part of the original cabin. You can also see the well that Pa dug and a period school and post office that have been moved there. If you stand in front of the cabin, you can look across the street to a field that goes clear to the river. It looks a lot like it did when they lived there, I suppose.

If Allen ever gets my scanner working, I could scan some pictures for Leah, if she'd like.

The only homes still standing in their original form are the house that Pa built in DeSmet, Mary and Almanzo's farmhouse and the rock house in Mansfield (she helped him build the farmhouse), and the Burr Oak Hotel (she doesn't write about living there in her books). The dugout is gone, but you can visit the indentation in the bank of plum creek where it once stood. The wonderful house is gone - I'm not even sure they know exactly where it once stood, but it was near Plum Creek. The Little House in the Big Woods has been rebuilt, but the woods are gone. You can visit the site of Pa's claim in DeSmet and also Laura's claim, but there are no houses standing.

I would LOVE to see those pictures Melissa! I absolutley LOVED Little House on the Praire.....the books & the series:D I also read all of the Trixie Belden books & all of the Nancy Drew books.
I read some of the Bobsey twins books too.
When I was really young I enjoyed all the Beverly Cleary books...Ramona The Pest, Beezus & Ramona etc....

I got a few good deals today......$$$:D $$$ saving money makes me smile:D I got some cute Christmas Dishes with reindeer on them......2.50 for a 16 piece set.....I got a service for 8 for 5 bucks:hyper:
I bought next years Christmas cards too.

I read Nancy Drew and Beverly Cleary too. LOL! Sounds like we have a LOT in common.

Hey Lars, where did you get Christmas dishes at that price? How cool. I'm jealous.

Hi all... I don't want to scare the men away today but I am kind of hurting bad Really I had a long day at work and every time I truly try to catch up, I get side tracked.

I don't mean to... when I am feeling better I will hopefully catch up. BUt know I am reading... this all just hurts.

I hope y'all understand :)

Congratulations LK on 3000!

My twin sis and I used to read Nancy Drew, but another one we really like was the Dana Girls!

MP, my DD was into American Doll also. I have that stuff all packed away for her, in hopes of her having a daughter someday.:D

E, :grouphug: Hope you feel better soon.

SB, what kind of bike did Brendan get?

I still don't feel real well so I'm just kinda laying around and relaxing. I did finish another scrapbook though! It was a Christmas gift for DD's fiance. I bought him the creative memories scrapbook and put all his China photos in the box when I wrapped it up. It looks awesome! I can't believe the scrapbooking store had China stickers!!!!

Oh my gosh! I read some of the Dana Girls, too. And Beverly Grey (or was it Gray? I can't remember).

Hi:wave2:

I got the Christmas dishes at a store called "Great Party"....thney took over all the "1/2 Off Card Shops" here....do you have those there? They had 3 different designs, reindeer, holly & I think the other ones were Santa.

seems like I've done about 30 loads of laundry today!!! I'm beat, and heading to bed.

I read all the LHOTP books too! and we used to have a trunk full of LHOTP clothes to play dress up.

Anyone here done any research on their family geneology? I'm really interested in getting started, but like scrapbooking, it seems overwhelming at first.....

MP, Leah would LOVE to see pictures! She just got done reading your description earlier. Thanks!

Steph, the geneology research is too intimidating for me. Luckily within the past few months, my mom gave us some paperwork on her dad and her family, and my dad gave us a copy of a family history that someone else had done. It is interesting reading.

My uncle did the genealogy research for my Dad's family......traced back to Robert E Lee & to Pocahontas (her daughter married a fellow with our last name) & to a Hall in England that bears the family name. My Grandma was a 'McCoy' so you can read some of my family history in books about the Hatfield's & the McCoy's:D Her uncles were involved in the fueding!:tilt:

Lars - sounds like you got a really good deal w/ the dishes!

Sandi - we bought him a 20 inch Schwinn Spitfire. It has front brakes along w/ the pedal brakes. He has never used front brakes before so I thought this would be an easy way to learn. He was so excited!

Gaspode - enjoy your evening alone!

E - hope you are feeling better - we're always here for you!

Taking the family to Dave & Busters tomorrow. DS wanted to go tonight, but it is crazy on a Friday night, so we will go in the afternoon tomorrow.

I paid dearly today for the easy day I had yesterday. I was busy beyond belief. Good busy, but busy just the same.

Happy Birthday to Brendan & Kaitlin and happy thousands of posts to Carol & LK.

BTW I should point out that while us guys left you alone today (oh yeah, thanks for noticing  ) all you did was talk about girlie stuff (that's why I'm not doing a catch up). No sheep, no bad sitcoms.....booorrring!

As you all probably saw on the riddle thread, there will be no living with Mrs LB for awhile (although I dropped yesterday's on her and didn't tell her the answer ;) ) Of course she said she doesn't do word puzzles so once again I lose.

Steph, I meant to respond this morning but never got back. When I referenced the chickens I also meant the whole barnyard humor thing. But she threw me so off balance that I wasn't thinking straight!

I'm working on family genealogy, but I'm slow. My side of the family is related to royalty in France. princess: We are also related to President Truman. The darker side of the family ran around with members Quantrill's gang including the James brothers and I think the Youngers. When I find a new twist, my mother always hesitates and asks if she wants to hear it. LOL! It's fun and I've met some really nice people. I use Family Tree Maker. That way you can just fill in spots when you find info.

Lars the dishes sound great! No we don't have that store here.

30 loads of laundry? I bet you ARE beat. :teeth:

Pour Lou. Let me see if I can give you something you can sink your teeth into. When we were dating I called DH my little lamb's tail (long story - you'll have to beg me if you want to hear it, but it's not what it sounds like!) So anyway, we collect sheep. :teeth: There are sheep all over the place in our house, even all over our Christmas tree. ;)
