Elaine, don't get me started. Both of my kids have had homework in the summer for any AP or Honors classes they have in high school. Andrew has to read 2 books and make journal entries for his AP english class. Plus a project about letters to the editor. For AP US History, he has 3 papers plus a bunch of memorization to do. For calculus he has a pretest to take. Luckily nothing for chemistry. (Blow up your house.) I hate having to nag him all summer. Summer is for us and I don't want him to have to do this all. Let him read for pleasure. But, if he wants the advanced classes he has to do it. And this is public school. My 2 both feel punished for achieving in school because the rest of the kids do NOT have summer homework.
OK, I'll get off the soap box now.
