It is 3:30 AM and I am wide awake. I woke up about a half hour ago and couldnt stop sneezing, so instead of waking up Lou, I decided ot sign on for a bit. I relly should go ot bed since I am having a garage sale in 4 1/2 hours and after that I have to work 6-12, then the garage sale again tomorrow.

Thanks Lou for the great recap, and you're right. I had been lurking, but not posting for a couple days. I would sneak on when I could and read a bit, but never had time to reply.

Anyway, yesterday was Sam's last day of school. This is the recap I posted on one of my AOL boards...

Sam has had the most remarkable teacher, I just adore this woman.
She is a Golden Apple award winner, 20+ years teaching in the same classroom, and just an all around amazing woman, She gets very attached to her kids. She was very strict, but yet gentle and caring.

At the end of class today she sat all the kids on the carpet and told them how proud she was of what they accomplished and learned. She talked about how they all cried on the first day because they were scared, but she was crying today because she was happy. She read us a list she had compiled of the things the kids told her they liked best and the things they liked leanrning about.

She told them how as much as she would like to be their teacher forever, but the little kids need her the most. She then talked about how every morning when she says her prayers she talks to her "Gramps' and that she had asked him this morning 'well, Gramps, what do you think of my crop this year" She told them he would have been so proud. She also explained to them that Gramps always told her to just try her best. Because of Gramps she had the kids say 'we will try our best' every morning.

She told them how she never loved school, she was always afraid. That is why she tried to teach them to love learning.

I looked at all the other moms and we were all sniffling, red eyed, tears rolling down our cheeks. We were just passing the kleenex box back and forth down the row.

Then she read this poem to them (and gave them all a copy)

You are a very special person
and you should really know
how I loved to be your teacher
How fast the year did go

Please come back to visit me
as through the grades you grow
Try hard to learn all you can,
there is so much to know

One thing I tried to teach you
to last your whole life through
is to know you are special
just because you are you

Good luck in grade one
I am very proud of you

As each child left she hugged and kissed them and rubbed the kisses in to their cheeks 'to last them through the summer'

Ok.....Bethany.....sniff....sniff.....thanks a lot.......I thought I was fine with Kevin's last day of kindergarten...sniff.......till I read that story and poem......sniff, sniff.............sigh.

Thanks for sharing it. What a wonderful teacher she must be!::yes::

Yes...today is last day of school for my kids....half day....Kevin is done at 10:20 and Kaitlin at 11:20. Kaitlin will be going to middle school next year so I have that milestone too!

I am having breakfast this morning with Sue and some other friends.

We were planning to see HP with LK and Sue but we all decided to avoid the craziness today and we are going to the pool instead.

Have a great day everyone !

Happy Friday!!

Bethany, She sounds like a special teacher! I Loved the poem!

Donna, Have fun at the pool. That's where I would be if I wasn't working!

I'm curious. Did anyone's MIL call them while they were away on their honeymoon?? (No, not me. but I found out yesterday the other MIL did and I'm wondering how that went over)

morning all

sandi - we spoke to my mum and sister while we were on honeymonn.......but that was really just to let them know that we got across the atlantic safe.....hubbie never minded.......thankfully not my MIL though, maybe it wasn't an issue cause we called them?

Bethany, what a wonderful teacher that your DS had this year! I wish more teachers could be as caring as she is.

Good morning! :sunny:

Have fun at the pool everyone who live in places warm enough to swim. Sure isn't here!

Bethany - that was a beautiful poem, she really does sound like a lovely teacher. My kids both had the same Kindergarten teacher and she too was a rare gem.

I also have something to share that's so appropriate at this time of year. It was originally posted by a lovely lady I've "met" on the Swan/Dolphin board. It's written by Kahil Gibran.

<font size=3 color=navy font face="Comic Sans MS">
"Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you, but not from you. And they are with you, yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love, but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but never their souls. For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you can not visit, not even in your dreams."

Sandi~I actually had to speak to my MIL a few times while we were on our honeymoon, actually called my parents too because I had to let them all know that I took DH to the Orlando emergency room.....he got sun poisoning....his leg swelled all up......had to see the doctor:eek:

Morning Everyone!

Lou - thanks for the info - I saw that on Mousesavers. I just have to make a decision now.

Bethany - wonderful poem and she sounds like a wonderful teacher. like LK said, too bad they all weren't like that.

Gail - how did Matt's team do last night?

Lars -

:wave2: to everyone else.

Brendan's last day was yesterday - so I don't have to rush around this morning. Not sure what we are going to do today. i have lots of things to do around the house, but i'll see what they want to do when they wake up.

They won!!!! Final score was 7-1 and the team is now tied for second place. Matt's record for the game was a walk and 2 hits....3 RBI's and one run scored!! :D

Today is "Send Carol A PM Day". No special reason, just because. That's right folks, take a moment and send our friend Carol a PM. A witty saying, a friendly greeting, a funny picture (behave Alan), anything at all (but be nice because you never know when it will be Send (insert your name here) A PM Day.

Good morning everyone!!! It's friday and I hope the day flies on by!!!

Lars... of course I'm a suck up :p

Lorraine, I am not sure of many places in the area that have indoor pools. Being that almost all are heated, most have them outdoors in Florida. If there are any AP rates you could get the AKL for about $130 then, or rack rate would put you in moderates. My favorite moderate is really CSR but I love POR as well! But I love planning so I hope I can help. Oh also an idea is to rent out points for a DVC resort, that would put you (on average) about $110-140/night for a studio :)

Have fun looking for Accords, Sandi! Luis had a 2000 Accord before he traded it in for the 2003 version (lowered payments by doing this)

Carol, that sounds long!!! Did Sarah get an award?

Bethany, good luck with your garage sale! And what a wonderful teacher Sam has :)

Enjoy your day Donna!! Sounds like you will have a great one!!!

Sandi, my MIL did not call me on my honeymoon. We did call my family to let them know we made it okay (standard practice when I travel) and since my dad wasn't home I called him again (or he might have called back since I asked him to) to thank him for a wonderful wedding. After that first night, I didn't hear from them again until we got home :teeth:

Gail, I don't think it is warm enough here for a pool either. I'm sure it will be soon though :)

Oh wow, Lars!!! I would be calling my family if that happened too!!! What a shame that happened to him on your honeymoon!

Hey Lorraine, since Brendan's last day was yesterday wanna come here and help me out at work? :p

Lorraine....I vote for POR ...it is my favorite moderate so far (havent stayed at CSR yet though). I like the boat to DTD, the pool there, seeing Bob Jackson in the lounge..(your kids will love him).....and just the whole theming and atmosphere of the place.
Their sitdown restaurant (Boatwrights) is very good too.

Yay for Matt!

Elaine: do you need another note to get out of work?

Lou: sent Carol a pm......sent you one too!;)

Thanks for the offer to work E, but I will have to turn you down.:teeth:

Thanks E and Donna for your suggestions!

Lorraine - we stayed at POFQ on honeymoon and loved it

Heres an interesting turn of events......apparently i didn't exist until i was 4......according to my medical records that is!!

It's that time again! We are now off to.....

<img width="400" SRC="http://seawifs.gsfc.nasa.gov/OCEAN_PLANET/SQUID/evans_bay.jpg"

New Zealand

 Sandy!

I hear the lines for Harry Potter aren't as long in New Zealand so I thought this would be a good place to spend the next few days!

Yeah !! We're in New Zealand !!!

Thanks Lou .... beautiful pic (now I really know why I wanted to go :D :D :D )

I've stayed at Port Orleans Riverside twice and loved it...... agree with Donna on the bar entertainment..... that guy is a riot .........
never knew his name though!

Good morning everyone.

Lorraine, I liked Dixie Landings when we stayed there, before it changed it's name.

Bethany, sounds like a wonderful teacher and an excellent start to Sam's education.

Gail, you and Bethany have to stop posting poems and sayings. I will NOT cry.

For those who asked, and I don't want to brag, Sarah did get several awards. The best were the President's Award for Academic Excellance (along with about 15 other students) and a Senatorial Scholarship for $400 for each of her 4 years.

Thanks Lou, for PM Carol Day. I love having a holiday. Do I still have to go to work?

If my father were still alive, today would have been my parent's 55 anniversary.

:wave2: Off to work.

Well, here I am in New Zeland, taking a little hike, and what do I run into..........DISers.

Hi Angels:wave: Looks like you are having a wonderful world tour! Do you mind if I join you when you all go see "Harry Potter"? I'm very much looking forward to it!

Enjoy your visit to NEW Zeland, it's a beautiful and diverse place...you may find it very hard to leave!

Hey, I know you! I recognize you from page 110 of the Dis Class Yearbook!!! :p

Welcome!
