I was pleasantly surprized,
The only thing I wish was for my size family that I would order 2 boxes and a veg fruit one too.Next month I will budget for that.http://www.angelfoodministries.com/menus/menu_2010-02_en.asp
It was $30,
I stopped on the way home to get 1/2 lb cheese, bread, tomato soup and 4 pk of toilet paper and that was $11.00.

The hamburger was a small pack,1lb small pack, but enough to add to pasta, the roast was 1 1/2 lb easy fajita or add in to a meal. A large bag of chicken breast, a rack of BBQ baby back ribs, bag of breaded chicken Patty, 4 large sausages, the frozen carrots and corn looked like they were right from the field. rolls, potatoes, frozen tray of mac, hamburger like a befferoni, and a huge surprize was the choc chip cookie dough for dd to make, and frozen pancakes.

I am sure there may have been other items, but I will order again, and add the veg/fruit to it too.:thumbsup2
I know that they are adding a bag of rice and dry beans to the Feb order also.

There were no can goods, but I am stocked on those from Aldies. So far this month I have cut the food bill down to $60 a week. There are 4 in the family the youngest 14, so that is far below the $200 that had been happening with stocked pantry and deep freeze.

Can't afford that any more.

Todays box was just a great. The steaks are a pleasant treat. I have been supplementing with Aldi and the deep freeze. Really cut down the food bill. I wish I did this a year ago.I also bought the senior dinners for quick meals.

My daughter and I have been using Angel Food since last spring. For me this was the best box so far. I never spend the $$ to buy ribs so that was a nice bonus. It sure helps stretch the food budget and really nice to get an item (baby back ribs) that I would consider a "luxury".

We just picked up our Angel food box too! This is the 3rd month we ordered and we really love it. I got the signature box, the fruit and veggie box, the meat box and the seafood box. It really is a great baragin. They told me of a site today, I think it was hillbillywife.com and she told me that they have recipes made especially for angel food! I gotta check it out.

For those of you ordering boxes for February, there is a coupon code that will take off 1.50 off of the 30 dollar signature box. It is FEB5.

But when I add up what I would pay for those things, I don't see savings...especially considering there are a couple things I would never buy. I added up what those items would cost me typcially on the Feb. menu and I could buy those items for very close to $30 (yes, watching sales...).
So I would rather buy the brands/items I know I would eat...
But I am glad you are happy with it! LIke I said...I keep checking!

I thought these boxes looked like a great deal! Is everything frozen? How did the meats look-high quality?

I always thought that you had to prove need for this kind of deal, I kind of feel guilty taking advantage of it? I would really like to try a couple of the packages for February.

Thanks for the info!

No there is no needs based and well, the meat in the box was sketchy at best IMHO.

I think it was an easy $1o or more savings, plus several meals are planned,
Low estimate,
9.00 Baby back ribs (or more)
3.75 Lg PK Braughtworst with cheese
2.00 lb hamburg
3.50 1 1/2 lb roast
5.00 Frozen chick breast filets several
3,50 Frozen chicken breaded patties abt 9
3,00 sm bag of potatoes
4.00 Frozen ziti entree (overbrook)
2.00 2 bags frozen veg's
1.75 1 dz eggs'
1.75 Frozen pancakes
1.00 fresh mini rolls
stable milk
The nestle cookie dough to bake should be at least $3.It is a big tub.

The portions on the roast were small at 1 1/2 lb, but I could use it for stew or fajitias. It is not like buying a 3 lb pork or chuck roast. For that watch for a sale and freeze.

The frozen chicken is a bag of the breast as I get in SAMs, the breaded filets, the same., they are large and not white washed looking, roast and hamburg are very small, but nice looking and will make a nice stew, taco's or speghetti sauce.

I wil use mine to make Aztec stew, hamburger, baked beans, corn and tomoato soup for a lunch.

How were the fruits and veggies for anyone that got them today? I think that is a no brainer for our house next month. In the mean time I will watch for some meat sales and freeze to portion and get canned goods and veg's from Aldi's.

Our local Aldi's is even busier then the Ohio main one. I was not impressed in the beginning, but since last August when I started with canned goods and veg's oh, and the $1.99 frozen pizza, I do alot shopping there.

DS works secutiy and buys the Aztec Tea 16 oz cans $1 size are .79 cents.

Someone told me that for every box you purchase, a box will be donated to someone who can't pay. Has anyone else heard of this? That alone would make me want to use them.

I've been checking it out and trying to compare to the local circulars as well. It is hard to beat my budget now because a few of our local mom & pop deli places put out great weekly specials.

But if I can help someone out by purchasing, then I'd give it a whirl.

I have been using Angel Food for long time. It has help with food budget. I usually supplement with healthy food a lot. I like the fact I get some quick convince foods that I don't buy in the store.

Aidi's is the bomb. I love shopping there. That is where I buy all my fresh fruits and veggies at.

My Aidi's look like it been hit hard. They was running out food left and right.

Mall was sick. You would thought it was Christmas. You could get close to the mall. I was trying to go shoe shopping and bypass mall because it was pack.

I like Angel Food a lot. We haven't ordered from them for a few months (just hasn't lined up with our schedule) but I'm looking to order for February. It is not our only source of food but it is a budget stretcher. About the only problem I've had (which I've shared before) is that the steaks can be a bit tough but I found a recipe on allrecipes.com for slow cooked steak & that makes them delicious.
I have not tried the fruit & veggie boxes but I have tried the seafood boxes and they are good. I find that in general I get things I might not normally buy & as a result we eat better & more variety.

This is not a need-based service. It's there for anyone who wants to use it. YOu can buy as many boxes as you want.

We've gotten the fruit boxes several times and really like them. The fruit was very fresh.

Angel Food is a good deal IF your family will eat what is in the box. Some months we get several, some months we get none...it just depends. I don't particularly care for the quality of their red meat but love their chicken, pork, and seafood. So the months with red meat we pass, the months with chicken and pork we buy extra.

I ordered from them a couple times.. a few YEARS ago.. some of the stuff was good.. some just sat in our freezer until it got all freezer burned and just thrown out. I am stunned to see there is a host site in our town now! Heck I can even walk there! I use to have to drive an hour! Back then the boxes were 22 or 24$ and they did not offer sea food or fresh fruit boxes.. The fruit box would not be a good deal for me.. our local farmers market is much cheaper and I could get twice as much for that price.. have you all looked into those around you? I can get 50 pound of potatoes for less than 10$ (not that I have ever bought 50 pounds of them)

This sound fantastic. I am going to share this with a few friends who have a need for a step up.

Someone mentioned they thought Angel Food gave away a box for every box purchased. It that correct?

Thank you for sharing OP. :goodvibes

Not sure about give away. They had some contraversy some time back about non-profit vs profits or something? I guess it is resolved.

Helene, I miss the Hometown market on Wed. Have not been out in years, During the season Wilkes Barre has one and for Seniors, yes, dh is a senior, there are vouchers to use.

I did buy the 50 lbs one year, kept them forever something like $6 a bag.

Oh you need to come back down here for the Hometown market! I live less than 20 min away! Its great in the summer! Also if you cant make it on Wed the Renniger (spelling?) auction is open on the weekends in Haven.. the same fruit places are down there! So much cheaper than walmart! I also have a great meat place down here if your interested! (yes I am cheap!)

Oh gosh I never realized how close. I use to go very often with my Dad, I loved that meat stand, are they still open in the winter. Wed was our big day out to the market day. It did not seem the same without Dad.
Much of our family in Tamaqua, we drove through on the way to Cabella's 2 weeks ago. DGS loves the smiley train for the ele. on the tracks/station downtown there.

I saw something that if you refer 10 people and they join the Angel Foods that I think you get a free box. I sent out emails to some family.
They were so friendly today, I did not know what to expect, but I cold have set there and had tea and chatted.

One thing this will do, is have me meal plan more. Also use every bit of what is in the pantry and deep freeze at this point.

I buy a box from time to time, but since I do not eat red meat the main boxes are usually a lot of waste. My kids and husband eat it, but I don't cook it usually, so I end up with extra in my freezer.

The one thing I have noticed about their fruit and veggie box is that the fruits and all need to be used/frozen in a few days. Don't expect to have lots of "almost ripe" things. I end up wasting from it since we don't eat the fruit fast enough.
