Android vrs iPhone

I am confused

Unlike iOS, the operating system that runs your iPad and iPhone, there are a lot of different variations of Android out there. Since there are many different manufacturers making Android-based phones and tablets and TV streaming devices, they modify it a little to suit their needs. So, not all phones and tablets and TV boxes that run on Android work exactly the same way, and apps don't necessarily work the same way (or at all) on all Android devices.

That's what Amazon has done with their tablets. They're based on the Android operating system, but they've changed Android a bit to do the things they want to.

You know how an app that runs on your iPhone will almost always work on your iPad? It's not necessarily that way with Android. If you have, say, a Samsung phone and an Amazon tablet, you can't be sure they'll run the same apps.

Now I understand thanks

I love my iPhone and have no plans to ever switch!! My son has an android and he hates iPhone so it really is a personal choice but if you're used to iPhone I'd stick with that rather than having to learn a new system.

I don't have the answer it's always on the charger when I am at home and I am not married to it like I was I almost always leave it on the charger when I go out unless I need it

Good thread. I've been using Galaxy products for the past few years, 6 and 7edge model. However, I'm with Verizon and they charge me a fortune, and their international travel plans are outrageous. I'm leaning towards getting a Pixel and getting service directly through Google Fi. I've heard great things about the Pixel, especially the camera.

Android has earned a reputation as being very insecure, with countless malware intrusions creeping under the radar in a study directed by leading Universities.

HOWEVER.

The new Android Blackberries seem to have a superior security net, making things on a more even keel.

Then again, if you're not stupid, security these days is fair enough on any platform.

It basically comes down to the user interface. Apple have just released iOS 11 which is very nice. I take it that the new Android system is pretty too, although few users upgrade to the latest Android install whilst most Apple users stay up-to-date. Make of that what you will!

I've never had a problem with my iPhone battery dying, with either the 5 or 6. I keep location services to a minimum, have good signal and good wifi. I almost never do voice calls.

Have you checked which apps are consuming battery? And do you have the screen illumination turned down as much as comfortable?

When we were in the parks, it was always DH worrying about battery more than me, with his iPhone 7. I'm not sure why, except he has unlimited data and I don't, so I limit my usage more than him. But we're up to four spare battery packs now (an Anker which I bought, good for 3 full charges, plus three other giveaways). I brought my Anker to the parks, but don't bother with a spare battery for day to day use. I usually keep my phone charging while driving, and charge it most nights.

I've used Android phones in the past, and frankly, I'd rather carry a spare battery all the time if that's what it came to. If carrying a separate spare battery is a nuisance, get a battery case. I'm fond of Anker in general, but Mophie is popular.

I keep all unnecessary apps closed. My iPhone SE battery lasts 3 days per charge, with regular texts, browsing and phone calls.

There was a time when I would have dived straight in and recommended a Ubuntu phone - using a Linux system. Very pretty, stable and safe. Unfortunately they never took off and I don't think you can get them new anymore.

I was a dedicated Android user up until last year when my wife "convinced" me to get a iPhone. I say each op system has its pros and cons. Almost all of my family use iPhones so facetime, photosharing, familysharing, etc. are all big pluses. But I like the customization of Androids and the Android notification system is significantly better than Apples.

Don't tell me that regrading android it was a very high tech birthday at my request and it was part Apple and part android we are talking fire stick from my mom and step mom and fire tablet from grandma in law. I would go on but I don't want you guys to think I am spoiled

Don't worry.....it's always nice to be a bit spoiled for your birthday. I love getting these new gadgets and am sure whatever you get, you will be happy.

I used Android for years. A couple of years ago my GM convinced me to switch to an IPhone. I liked it. A lot. Well my technologically advanced nephew convinced me to switch back to Android (I'm easily swayed lol) Ended up very unhappy. So a couple of months ago I switched back to an IPhone. Much better for me. Someone asked me why I liked the iPhone better. I couldn't answer beyond that I just do. Definitely a personal preference.

My daughter's I*Phone's battery was on its last legs. For $20 I just bought a new battery and installed it myself. Worked great. I just bought and I*Phone for myself. Virgin Mobile was selling I*Phone SEs for $179. Service was only $30 per month for unlimited data and texting.

I have tried Android in the past, and did not like it. I had a Motorola for a few months, sold it and bought another iPhone. I have handled other peoples' Samsung d'jour phones and was like ewwww lol. *knock on wood* I have never had any issues with iPhone batteries. I know if you need to replace an iPhone battery, you can find places that do it. I doubt that is as good as having Apple do it, but it is a lot cheaper.

I don't have the answer it's always on the charger when I am at home and I am not married to it like I was I almost always leave it on the charger when I go out unless I need it
First, get a new battery.
Second, only charge it if you're below 50-60%. My Samsung Note5 (so technology that's a couple years old and the phone itself is about 10 months old) I get anywhere from 8 hours to two days on a single charge. It all depends on how heavily I use it. I fully believe excess charging does more harm than good.

Yes, I think you should charge it fully, remove it, and let it get down to a low percentage before charging again. Leaving it on the charger is probably part of the problem.

There are shops out there that will put a new battery in an iPhone. We've done it a few times. I'm too nervous to let DH try to do it himself.
