We know someone that has a Android LG Ally for sale. Seems to be a nice phone I know nothing about smartphones. I have a Verizon flip phone that I only use for phone calls, we had internet off our phones a long time ago only used the free trial. So not sure I would need the Droid other than being 3G it might come in better than the cheap basic flip phone that I have. We live in the boonies and cell reception is iffy with lots of dropped calls. Neighbor has 3G and said it comes in better than what he had. If I switch to the Droid would I have to get a data plan with it? How do data plans work is it one price for so many downloads/apps. Not sure I really want internet on the phone just want better reception. Anyone know how the cameras and video are on the LG Ally?

My wife and I both have an LG Ally.

Since you are buying it from a third party I don't know if you will be required to get a data package with it. The data package we are required to have (since we purchased directly from verizon) is $29.95 per month for unlimited internet.

Again since you didn't buy from verizon, you may be able to get the limited data package that runs $9.95 per month.

The 3G signal is for data only- you will still be using the current cell signal for phone calls.

Thank you for the info dejr. DH has the phone online now from our wireless which got me to wondering. Do we also need virus protection on the phone? As I said I know nothing about smartphones. All we've ever owned is a basic cell.

We use a free Virus Protection App (I believe it is AVG). Check in the market place.
