The trip report begins . . .
On the morning of December 5th, we woke up between 4:30 and 5am, and were dressed, packed and out the door at around 6:15am. After a quick stop at the Kroger store for a couple of last minute essentials, we headed out to the airport.
We arrived at the airport right on schedule a little before 7am. We had told Brian's parents that we'd be there at 7, and they had already arrived by the time we got there. Brian's mom already had her wheelchair and we got everyone's luggage checked in. After saying our goodbyes to Brian's brother, we proceeded through the security line. The Delta attendant escorted Brian's parents through a special line. The attendant took care of everything for Brian's parents, even removing their shoes and handling their ID's.
Once Brian's parents were settled at the gate, we left to get them some breakfast. After getting breakfast for Brian's parents, we got the obligatory airport Starbucks and a little something to eat for ourselves and some sugarless gum for Gavin. And about the time we arrived back at the gate, my friend Jaime showed up. The plane was a bit overbooked and Jaime ended up getting upgraded to first class!
Before we got on our plane, we started getting communication from other wedding guests already in transit. Our good friends Sean and Ellen had taken the early Airtran flight that connects in Atlanta. One of my best friends and Maid of Honor's boyfriend is an Airtran pilot so they were able to fly for free and they had also taken the early flight to Atlanta. The problem is that all of the flights between Atlanta and Orlando were completely booked. Just a few minutes before we boarded, we received a text from Sean that said "Sonja and Tommy just got taken off the plane." Oh noooo . . . . Jaime sent Sonja a text that said "Stay calm . . . make Tommy buy you a drink at the nearest airport bar and we'll see you soon." And then we boarded our plane and we were on our way!
Cool shot from the airplane . . . you can see the bridge over the Mississippi River and the Pyramid:
Our flight was right on schedule and it was smooth sailing to Orlando! A couple of hours later, we arrived at the Orlando airport:
This is where things started to get a teeny bit crazy. We never received our Magical Express luggage tags, so we had to grab our luggage off the carousel. And we had to push Brian's mom in her wheelchair - our hands were incredibly full. And the line to check-in to Magical Express was about a mile long . . . uggghh!
As it turns out, though, we ended up being taken to a line that was quite a bit shorter to check in because of Brian's mom's wheelchair. Before too long, we became separated from Brian's parents since they were going to a different resort. Our wait wasn't too bad to get on the bus - maybe about 20 minutes. And the cool thing is that once we were settled on our bus, we were able to see Brian's parents board safely onto the bus next to ours. It wasn't too long before we arrived at the Happiest Place on Earth!
We made stops at the Polynesian and the Wilderness Lodge before arriving at our home away from home - the Contemporary Resort. By the time we got there, my mom was already at the Contemporary anxiously awaiting our arrival:
Coming up next . . . our accommodations for the week!
