As much as I wish this post referred to "one day until Disney," that one's still a ways off. instead, I'm looking to find out people’s opinions about the best plces to eat solo. For example, I've always wanted to try Ohana’s at the Poly, but am torn on whether the atmosphere there makes it the perfect place for a solo diner or the worst place possible. Thoughts? What other resaurants are particularly good or bad in that regard?

I don't see why it would be a problem to dine alone at 'Ohana, or anywhere else, for that matter. If it's something you want to try, go for it!

I have been to WDW twice by myself and while sometimes you may wish for a bit of companionship at a meal it is not really a problem, particularly if you have stuff to read. I ate at 'Ohana solo in May and this is actually a good place to go. They sat me by the window looking out at the lagoon so i could watch the boats in the water. Because there are kids activities here it is alsfo fun to watch when they get going with a game. You also don't have to fight anyone for the last dumplings!!! ;)

In all honesty, Walt Disney World is one of the best places I've been to in terms of solo dining. I have never had a problem with service/tables/whatever either in the theme parks or resort restaurants (and the resorts have solo diners all the time). The only place that might feel a teensy bit strange are character meals... I've heard mixed reviews on these for solo folks.

No matter what you decide, it'll be a GREAT trip!

Sincerely,
Solotraveler
(PS: Go for Ohana... you won't be bored or disappointed... you'll be too busy stuffing yourself... :)

I have an idea for dinner at O'hana. My husband and I had priority seating for our meal there. Many families that had no reservations were told the wait would be over an hour. We asked a nice family if they wanted to join us at our reserved table so they wouldn't have to wait.

We had a great meal and great conversation. The appetizers are shared so this was a bit uncomfortable. Overall, I thought it was a great experience. We talked for hours.

I recommend dining at Boma at AKL. Since the dinner a buffet, there are no uncomfortable waits between courses. Touring the lodge is a great evening diversion. I love talking with the African Cast Members at the savannah lookouts there.

I also enjoy meals at the counter at Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club.

Have fun!

I had two very pleasant solo lunches during my recent visit. The counter at Beaches & Cream and tankside at Coral Reef. I never felk akward about being by myself, I just enjoyed the atmosphere and the good food!

On my one and only solo trip to WDW I had a FANTASTIC meal at Yachtsman's steakhouse. They sat me at a quiet corner table and the waiter treated me like a queen. I also had a great meal at Beaches & Cream on that trip.
