Day 1 May 7
Up at 4:30AM. My bride (of 23 years) was up at 1:30AM. She probably couldnt sleep cause she was looking at me.
Enrico, our driver, arrives promptly at 5:30AM. Helps us with our luggage and gets us to Laguardia at 5:45.
My bride, Judy Marie, so proud of knowing how to check us in with Delta/Song at an automated kiosk. Smooth again. Off to the gate! A good flight down, only a few potholes in the sky. Judy Marie smilingly reminds me it is just air. The girl sitting next to us pops more Xanax and falls asleep.
I should introduce myself. My name is Paul. Now thats enough of introductions.
We are trying this new thing! Its called Magical Express, where we exit the plane and are wisked off to Disney World. Well, we never got our luggage tags. Got on the new bus and arrived at the Beach Club at 10:30AM. Still worrying about my luggage, or should I say the beer I packed in my luggage.
Our room was ready. A beautiful room with a large terrace overlooking Stormalong Bay.
It is our first minutes here and I am ready to hit all 4 parks, hang out at the pool all day and drink beers. My bride knows I am crazy and humors me.
We go to Epcot to pick up the Disney dining experience letter at Guest Relations. Go on Spaceship Earth as our 1st attraction. We decide to go on Soarin but an 80 minute wait decides us to get a fast pass, which is not good for 4 more hours! We head back to Stormalong Bay and celebrate with some cold beer (the luggage arrived!!).
We meet with an old friend, Raouf, a castmember who works at the pool.
Back to Epcot at 4:30 for Soarin. What a great ride! In America we see a band we did not like, Greg Rollie Band JM said they gave her a headache.
Dinner at Cape May Buffet, which is always awesome. This has become a tradition on our first night. We got 20% off with JMs dining card - which allows us to leave a generous tip.
Theres a convention party on the beach with a DJ. This music was great wish we were invited! We sat on the beach looking across at the Boardwalk. You know what a beautiful view this is if you have ever stayed here. It is a beautiful night, cool with no clouds or humidity. Makes you wish you had the energy to sit up all night. But we have been up a long time and decide to call it a day around 11PM.
May 8 Day 2
We just flew in from NY yesterday and boy are our arms tired!
Had coffee and cookies on the terrace (thank you Cape May buffet for the delicious chocolate chip cookies you so generously and unknowingly provided last night!) It is another beautiful day so we are off to the pool. After a few cold beers we are starting to feel like we are on vacation.
A beautiful pool day, down the slide, around the lazy river, etc. We head upstairs around 5pm to get ready for MGM. After missing the boat, we arrive at 6:30. The last showing of the new motor stunt show is at 6:40! My new Mizuno sneakers are at full throttle. JM shrugs off our nice leisurely walk which she planned and kicks into high gear. We make it to the back of the park with 2 minutes to spare! Not bad for two middle aged teenagers. After we exit this fantastic show we head to Catastrophe Canyon, then to see Fantasmic. We get a wristband near Rock N Roller coaster, as the park is open til midnight for resort guests. Met a nice couple who were on their honeymoon.
We told them we also stayed here on our honeymoon, although in 1981 Magic Kingdom was the only park here. The little girl next to me drops her soda and there goes my new sneakers! Well, it turned out to be caramel popcorn and my sneakers are still new. Fantasmic was fantastic, as always. A must see. Next we see Little Mermaid always nice to see Ariel. Its around 10:30 and we are getting tired. The park is crowded so we decide to call it a night.
Well, when JM and Paul call it a night this means its time for some dinner and cold beer!
We arrive at ESPN at 11PM. It is not crowded like MGM. We order a pitcher of red beer and 2 Extreme Reuben sandwiches. The waiter is nice and takes off 20% (even thought it is Mothers Day for ten more minutes). This makes dinner a bargain at $32 so a generous tip goes to our late nite server. The sandwiches were extreme and the beer was ice cold no need to say more. We take that lovely walk back to our Beach Club.
Footnote: Our maid, Lillian is the same one from our last 3 trips (we always request the same room and have been lucky enough to get it!) She is wonderful and made JM so happy by leaving towel animals in the room and near the sink. She even hung up our wet bathing suits on that stringy thing in the bathroom. JM left her little notes each morning with her tip and she seemed to enjoy that. She often writes back little notes and it makes JM feel special!
May 9 day 3
Its another sunny day in Florida.
We have coffee and chocolate chip cookies again on the terrace. Boy that Cape May buffet is generous! As I write this trip report I think of my sister-in-law Janet who would love this vacation. I dedicate my trip report to her, as she wishes she were here.
12:15 time for a nutritious lunch of beer and pistachio nuts. This is our standard lunch every day. I just cant believe the weather so far. Blue sky, no clouds or humidity. As they say in Florida mostly sunny. The weather just keeps us at the pool til after 5PM.
We walk to Epcot and hear music in Canada. Its Off Kilter. They play rock music in kilts. We loved their version of Sweet Home Alberta and Danny Boy. Imagine a band that can rock and roll and make you laugh at the same time. You really must hear them.
We then walk around to America to see the (Flower Power) Lovin Spoonful. They were great did Hot Town Summer in the City and Do You Believe in Magic? what a perfect Disney song.
We continue on to Germany to look at the cuckoo clocks. We love them, especially the ones where they drink beer every hour!
Our leisurely pace ends as we shoot over to Test Track (single rider line-no wait). Then back across to the Land for Soarin. It is 8:25 and the wait if 40 minutes. Another major decision Illuminations or Soarin? JM assures me well be out on time, so Soarin it is. JM loved this attraction would have rode it all night if she could. We are out at 8:55 and run to see Illuminations. Again my new Mizuno sneakers are at full throttle. We manage to make it all the way to the UK where we have a great view. JM is a little disappointed never quite got over the first few Illuminations they were her favorites. They used to feature each country with different music and it seemed like more fireworks. Well enough about Illuminations we are not critics, still had a lot of fun. A great day indeed, but its not over yet.
For the grand finale dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. JM loves that baby spinach salad and I get a pot of mussels. JM asks for advice choosing a Merlot. I am set with the 17 oz schooner of Sam Adams. Frosted Mug which weighted about 5 lbs. building up those beer muscles.
Chateaubriand for two is the main course. You know Im a happy man. If I had to go home tomorrow Id feel like a great trip was had by us. The bill came to $107 after the 20% discounts was applied. A generous tip to our waitress for great service and a great wine recommendation. JM & I call it a night. I have a beer on the terrace as I write this report.
