so I thought when I cleared my cookies, history, etc that it would take away the sites I've been to? I'm so confused! So when I go up top & type in an addy it still pulls up all the sites I've been to - not just today's sites or anything.

WHat have I done wrong - or is that NOT what clearing history does & that's done some other way or not at all? :confused3

Do you have the Google Toolbar installed? You have to clear history that separately.

NO, I've just done the same things, too. That's how I happen to know what you're going through... :rolleyes1

Anyway, sorry the System Restore didn't work earlier. :(

which browser are you using?

Mikeeee

Thanks - I've been sitting here for hours now - trying everything I can think of....walked thru Trend Micro's fix it page - trying to down load their housecall that's supposed to do more - it wouldn't download w/o Java - got that put on & then it tried to download & then sat idle. That was after spending about 30 mis figuring out where to find all the files needed to download. Right now I'm running another TM scan - it's 50% done with 21 potential threats. i went in & deleted the other threats that were listed.

I've uninstalled & reinstalled my firewall....

Just about to start the AVG to see if that'll help.

Don't have any idea what else to do....:confused3 can I uninstall my Trend Micro or is it only to be installed 1 time? I've got the disk sitting here - will have to hunt for the key though - hope I didn't throw it away... maybe that would help????

I don't think you have to uninstall the Trend Micro. Just turn it off before you install & run AVG. If it makes you reboot after you installed it - and before you run AVG, check again to make sure Trend Micro is OFF. It probably automatically turns itself back on during a restart.

ok -

I was wondering if I uninstalled Trend & reinstalled it might clear up whatever problem its having - its still saying the same things about firewall & I've already done that...

It's still scanning so I can't do anything yet - still 21 threats - been 1+ hour now! UGH This is getting OLD REALLY fast! I've been here about 4 hours now fooling with this! :scared1:

I'm thinking I'm just gonna say goodbye to Webkinz & facebook & forget about it! Though I'm afraid what else has been infected that I just havent' stumbled across yet - ya know?

Hang in there!

I know how you feel. :badpc:

:(

gonna call it a night - before this computer gets shoved thru the window ! It's after midnight & no progress has been made!

Trend Micro still thinks my firewall has been shut down & my unauthroized change prevention service is shut down :confused3 and it wants me to restart my TM serivce- but I thought I HAD restated it.....

Eeps!

Have a good nite. Don't think about it, anymore tonight. :goodvibes

BTW how DO I clear the google toolbar anyway?

I wouldn't think that's what I'm meaning 'cause its not the spot that I use to google - it's the spot at the top where I type in the web addy that remembers everything. (up there next to my back button)

To clear the Google toolbar, right click anywhere in the whitespace and click on "Clear History".

To clear the address bar, simply delete the history in Internet Explorer, then delete all the Temporary Internet Files.

OR, to make the process a ton simpler, you can simply download some freeware cleaning tools like CCleaner (yes, that's 2 C's) or CleanUp. They'll remove all the files needed to basically wipe out the fact that you were on the Internet at all.

Cookies store a token identifying to a certain website your computer as you, or store bits of data indication how you like things set up on a certain webside. Clearing cookies will not clear other things, like your browsing cache, or browsing history.

In Firefox, the controls for clearing different parts of what is saved can be found at Tools/Options.../Privacy/Clear Now. In IE, the controls are at Tools/Internet Options.../General/Delete... (Note that this won't clear other caches, such as those stored by additional programs you may have added in to the browsre, like Google Toolbar).
