...and a happy New Year! 12/30/2010

Happy November to all!!! Hope everyone is doing well, can't believe we sail in 56 days and are headed down to WDW in 45 days!!! It can't get here soon enough! Anyone staying at AKL Kidani?

We are not staying at AKL Kidani, but we are checking in this afternoon for a week long stay. Last time we stayed there we had a 2BR on the end by the pens where they examine all the animals each day, so we saw all the animals every day. What a great place to stay! Alex

We are still Cat 12 GTY status.

I checked today and there is still Cat 12 available for a family of 3. Invite your friends and family to come along!

Kikimouse,

I never did FE. I have a feeling I would get very confused and forget someone. Someone would have to explain to me in very good detail. Yeah I keep looking for the status myself. Still GTY:confused: Would love an upgrade though with my luck we will be the only ones in the cat12s while everyone else got upgraded. :rotfl:

Well I check this afternoon and no the last cat 12 is gone. I am sure they will open back up once they start doing cabin assignments.

I also checked we had a cabin yet assigned and ..... not yet

I was looking at the date for gty cabin assignments for last yrs cruise and we got the upgrade call about 50 days out. I was just looking at this years gty assignments and they began getting assignments for the 12/18 sailing at the beginning of this week.
So, maybe that means we will get out cabin #'s within the next couple of weeks? I know there is no formula on all of the upgrades, etc.... but... I hope we get offered upgrades! Last yr. we got a paid upgrade from a 12 to cat 9!
How many of you are gty cat 12?
KikiMouse

I have cruised guaranty many times but never received an upgrade call, we are gty 12 this cruise as well. Did they call and offer you an upgrade prior to the cruise?

They now FL resident rates for our cruise... until Sunday, Nov 7th
Cat 5 for $1639/person

Maybe that means they will start assign Cabins on Monday.

Laura

Hi Everyone! Yes, I am checking in again! George and I are getting very excited...will be back on the boards tomorrow, but just wanted to say hello...:wave2:

do we have any idea how many cabins will be participating in the FE list? I have a great idea and want to start planning on if and how to make it work

The complete list as of now is in post #2 on page 1. I update it as we get people joining the cruise and the FE. It also has the room #'s for those that already know them.

It's not to late to join the FE (hint****hint****to those that have not made a decision)!!!!!

Only 50 more days until we sail. :cool1:

Rachel, here is an explanation of a FE. Its from a previous post, I don't know how exactly to post a link---
Anyway, for our group, there are about 9 families that are participating. This is very manageable size group. We have a list on page 2 of the cabins that are participating. Basically everybody hangs a "Fish Extender" on the fish near their door (see below). We exchange little gifts. These can be very simple treats or some people make gifts. You can give one per cabin, or for each person or whatever you like. Its fun to give them and also to see what was left for you in your FE!
I hope someone in our group can give a better explanation as I have only done this once. Anyone out there that can help?

A Fish Extender Primer

So just what exactly is a “fish” and just why does it need “extending”? Well… The “fish” is a combination wall decoration/ornament and message clip that is attached to the wall outside every cabin on the Magic & Wonder. The CMs (that’s “Cast Members” for the newbies) use them to leave messages, official forms or invitations for the occupants of the cabin as needed. It’s kind of like a glorified fridge-magnet and it looks like this: (click on the image to enlarge)

A “Fish Extender” is any thing that you care to hang on the fish. Literally anything will qualify, but in general, they are usually some type pocket organizer similar to a shoe caddy or mail organizer. They can be as simple as a canvass bag or as complex as your imagination cares to stretch. Here are a couple from our last cruise: (click to enlarge)

We’re are not very good with a needle and thread, so we engineered ours out of a couple of small cotton bags, a Disney themed bandana and some chain from a light fixture and ended up with this variation on the idea: (click to enlarge)

So, what’s it for? Well… It’s become a kind of “Secret Santa” game played by the folks who roam the DIS Boards. The idea is that every DIS Member who is on the same cruise will go around the ship and leave a little “nick-nack” or “whats-it” in the pouches for the other members that are playing along. The generally agreed rules are that you give out gifts to each participant once per cruise, and that the gifts should be very inexpensive trinkets that either fit a cruise or holiday theme and/or show off a little taste of who you are or the place that you call home. Here’s a link to a continuing thread on the boards that discusses the subject at length:

Left work early today - my boss said I looked like ...., and should take a double shot of Nyquil and recover from my cold. Instead, I have been googling all after noon and finalizing my Disney plans. We were planning to drive the 2,200 km or 24 hr. drive, but I booked flights today. We did the drive last year, and it just did not end the vacation on the right tone. This will make my DH very :goodvibes. Then I booked the Saratoga Resort for a couple nights. The girls on the phone thought I should come to Disney early and get some Magic to rid my cold (basically I have lost my voice). Finally, booked the Kona Cafe for my husband's 50th birthday on Jan. 6. Spent a lot of money today, but the CDN $ is about par with the US, so it does not hurt as much. I am very excited about the cruise - only 50 more sleeps, and then my first 5K race at Disney on January 7.

Now to start planning the FE gifts. Gotta get these done soon, the holiday parties are already starting on Nov. 19.

For those of us that don't hate running do you all want to do the CC 5K together? No one else in my family likes to run so I'll be doing it solo and would love some running company. I plan on making it a warm up for the 5K at DW on the 7th. BTW did you all see that the 5K is sold out? In Oct. when we ran it there were over 1,000 people there and I don't think it was sold out, I wonder how many they have doing this one.

Patti,
Driving that in 24 hours would make me very nervous as well. Probably a nice present for your DH for his birthday, not having to worry about driving.
I might have told you this, but your DH and I are twins. Okay well born on the same day and same year. If he was born in the same city, then we might be twins :rotfl:

DH and I am in for it. I may not be able to keep up with you. I run for about 4 minutes tops and then walk a minute. I am really hoping I will be up for a full run. I was planning yoga, but I think prepping for the race would be good. Especially since I have not run for a week since I got this cold. I am take another day, okay until 1:30 off work. I am a little concerned about the number of people in the race. It sounds like it may be a little congested.

Yes, I do remember you saying that it is your birthday, but I did not realize it was the same year. It was very disappointing when the cruise dates changed, and we were not on the ship to celebrate. When I booked the resort and dining, it was taken note of this special birthday. DH is not going to be able to hide from it.

I'm a slow runner so I shouldn't be that hard to keep up with. The farthest I have been able to run at a stretch is 1.5 miles so I don't mind stopping every now and then. Have you tried the couch to 5K program? That's what I used to get started, obivously I didn't finish it or else I'd be able to run the whole way. My plan at the last Disney 5K was to run from character to character and then stand in line for photos. It worked out great, I never got too tired. :thumbsup2

Got our room assignment today, they bumped us up to 2544, a Cat. 9 Deluxe Oceanview room:cheer2:

Also we will be participating the the FE group, sorry we didn't post earlier, it's been a crazy week.

Congrats on the room, and glad you're joining us in the FE. The more the merrier.

I hope all the others waiting on room numbers get them soon.

I am about a third of the way finished with my fish extender and have the bulk of my gifts, but my mind is still working on more!!!

The time is flying by. It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just a couple of weeks away and then we really begin the countdown. :dance3:
